THE POSITIONWe are searching for a self-motivated HR Compliance Specialist to join our team in the Hunt Valley, Maryland office.The HR Compliance Specialist handles compliance for multiple areas of Human Resources, ensuring that the business does not violate employment laws in the US, Canada, and abroad. The HR Compliance Specialist is responsible for proactively staying up to date on the ever-changing HR legal landscape and reporting to the Director of Human Resources any items that need to be addressed to ensure HR policies and procedures are compliant.The HR Compliance Specialist will partner with the Director of Human Resources to develop and deliver training to the HR Team, managers, employees, etc. about compliance-related topics.JOB RESPONSIBILITIESThe following are key of the HR Compliance Specialist responsibilities:Research and report on federal, state, or provincial employment-based regulatory and legislative changes and ensure that developments in rules and policies are restructured with HR practices, articles, policies, and systems.US legislative areas of focus include, but are not limited to, the following: Title VII, FLSA, DOL, HIPAA, OSHA, WARN, Fair pay, LOAs, and state laws regarding recruitment and sick leave. Canada legislative areas of focus include, but are not limited to, the following: Equal Pay, Human Rights, Occ Health and Safety, and Provincial employment standardsCreate and review regulatory compliance documentationReport changes in rules and regulations, analyzing their effect on the company, presenting to HR management Create procedures, processes, and policies to facilitate a better compliance stance in the company. Review, update, and maintain Company Employee Handbook(s) Regular review and maintenance.Collaborate with Legal Counsel to communicate the associated requirements with every applicable HR-based regulatory and legal and compliance training program.Educate and train the HR team, managers, and employees about the regulatory and legal requirementsComplete routine internal HR compliance audits to ensure compliance with legislation as well as internal policy/procedure.Conduct employee-related investigations as directed (ie, work-related injury, illness, and accident, etc.)Regular review of people systems (ie, Workday, background check provider, etc.) to ensure compliance with legislative and internal policy and procedure requirements.Handling sensitive employee data or reports discreetly and confidentially.JOB QUALIFICATIONSA minimum of two years of experience in an HR compliance-focused role, or a minimum of five years in a position with compliance as a primary job functionExperience with US and Canadian employment law/compliance; additional International HR compliance a plusExcellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.Service/people-oriented, relationship building, judgment, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work in an agile work environmentAbility to multi-taskSelf-directedMust be resourcefulProficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, experience with HRIS an asset.
