This role is remote eligible.

Job Summary:
Westat has an immediate opening for a Senior Research Associate - Healthcare Claims & Data Science who will work with our research staff to provide data management, programming, and quantitative analytic support for our small- and large-scale health studies. You will routinely use your programming skills and claims experience to support research on healthcare delivery, payment policy, healthcare quality, and other issues affecting the health care system.

Job Responsibilities:
•    Responsible for all stages of project data management and analysis including developing data pipelines and architecture, data collection, management, quality control, transformation, analysis, and reporting.
•    Use SAS to perform data management tasks and support analyses. 
•    Utilize advanced and sophisticated programing to analyze Medicare, Medicaid, and/or private sector claims and administrative data.  
•    Implement statistical analyses ranging from simple univariate statistical tests to complex modeling approaches.
•    Work with multifaceted teams comprised of subject matter experts, statisticians and other quantitative researchers, and programmers.
•    Develop innovative and effective approaches in response to client's data management and analytic needs and clearly communicate results and methodologies. 
•    Work with IT and project teams to support data collection, integration, and retention requirements. 
•    Mentor and train data management and programming staff.
•    Conduct data reviews and create documentation.

Basic Qualifications:
•    A Master's degree in statistics, data science, economics, mathematics, epidemiology or a related field and at least 5 years of experience, including demonstrated experience programming Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurer claims; or a Ph.D in statistics, data science, economics, mathematics, epidemiology or a related field and at least 3 years of experience, including demonstrated experience programming Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurer claims
•    Proficiency in SAS. 

Preferred Qualifications
•    Familiarity with SAS/SQL (especially Teradata), R and/or Python.
•    Familiarity with Snowflake.
•    Experience with linking multi-record person data files.
•    Experience collecting and analyzing data from a variety of sources including administrative (e.g. EHR, registries) and claims data, and conducting complex data linkages with these data.
•    Experience working in the CMS IDR or VRDC.
•    Experience contributing to reported results for publication in peer-reviewed and technical journals. 
•    Experience in data visualization methods and presentation.
•    Experience working in a government contracting environment.

Candidates must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, be detail oriented, be able to work in an agile environment with tight timelines, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
