CommonLit is a nonprofit edtech startup dedicated to providing high-quality literacy instruction to low-income students and students of color to prepare them for success in college and careers. We operate a free comprehensive online literacy program in English and Spanish for grades 3-12 (www.commonlit.org) that is used by over 20 million teachers and students. Within the program, teachers can assign lessons or instructional units to students, grade their work digitally, and track students' academic gains.We are looking for an Email Marketing Specialist who is excited to work for a fast-paced tech startup. The ideal candidate needs to have a track record of success leading email-marketing campaigns for a midsize or large organization that drove user acquisition and retention. This person should have experience building multi-step or smart email campaigns that drive specific user actions. In recent years, CommonLit has built a newsletter audience that includes hundreds of thousands of teachers and administrators. The current team has been able to reach users, share updates about the program, highlight training opportunities, and sell premium services to schools and districts. The ideal person for this role would be tasked with creating and executing a more sophisticated marketing plan that builds upon the current team's work. This is an area of our organization that we expect to grow in the coming years and this is a great opportunity for someone looking to have a critical role in the development of a new team. This person should also feel comfortable analyzing large data sets and coordinating with CommonLit's data team in order to plan out future email engagement campaigns. They should also be an effective communicator who is excited to collaborate with the team's copywriters, communications strategists, and customer-facing teams. This is a full time position. Your cover letter should explain why you're a good candidate for the role, and the special skill(s) that you would bring to the CommonLit team.Responsibilities:Works with CommonLit's data team to determine, track, and analyze the data sets that will advance the company's KPIsWorks with CommonLit's leadership team and communications experts to design campaigns that promote CommonLit's mission and brandWorks with CommonLit's customer-facing teams to design email campaigns that drive revenue from school or district salesConsistently analyzes data and solicits feedback in order to improve the end product and resultsCreates data-driven approaches to the end-to-end design and development of email campaigns, including lead nurturing, user communications, and customer acquisitionActs as a self-starter who develops and tests hypotheses in order to improve the impact of CommonLit's programQualifications:4+ years of email marketing and/or user retention experienceExperience working with business intelligence tools such as LookerExtensive experience using Salesforce Pardot (or another similar email marketing program)Experience testing the effectiveness of email marketing campaigns, running A/B tests, and making iterative changes.A working knowledge of SQL is not required but may be helpfulWillingness to jump in on other projects including company PR, social media management, etc.Experience working in a fast-paced environment, across multiple teams, and with several stakeholdersStrong attention to detail and desire for feedbackStrategic thinker, self-starter, with strong time management and organizational skillsCommitment to advancing equity in low-income schools across the United States
