The Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division , is seeking an Entry-Level Spacecraft Operations and Flight Safety Engineer to join our team in Springfield, VA. The Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments. Position Overview: The Entry-Level Spacecraft Operations and Flight Safety Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity serve as a focal point for ensuring spacecraft safety of flight and coordination between contractor and government operations teams. This role will support the spacecraft ground station operations, and will be responsible for the mission planning or command and control responsibilities for all aspects of spacecraft operations and maintenance. Position Responsibilities: Provide daily oversight of spacecraft safety of flight to include environmental and man-made threats. Perform, document, disseminate, and maintain vulnerability assessments. Facilitate cross-site technical issues. Support operations and/or customer requests for new missions. Support contingency command and control facilities. Provide daily threat briefings to management and customers. Coordinate assessments with acquisition, operations, and intelligence teammates. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An final US Top Secret/SCI and adjudicated polygraph Pre-start is required. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience): Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. Ability to successfully complete a Space Vehicle Certification program which requires a combination of self-study and on-the-job (OJT) training Willingness to work a rotating shift Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Spacecraft orbit knowledge, coursework or experience. Active TS/SCI US Security Clearance Prior military service or experience in national space programs. Experience with systems engineering principles. Typical Education/Experience: E ducation/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (eg Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard COVID-19 Requirements: Candidates should be aware that after an offer is accepted, proof of vaccination against COVID-19 will be required for this position.
