We are seeking a Jr. Scientist to support research programs and projects at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). Responsibilities Odyssey is seeking a Jr. Scientist to support the Wound Infections Department (WID) at WRAIR. WID aims to deliver specific countermeasures for infection of combat wounds pre-injury, at the point-of-injury, and post-injury, in support of the following activities. Duties include, but not limited to: Design and develop novel small molecule antibiotics against MDR organisms of military relevance Identify novel small-molecule drug candidates through in silico screening of commercially available chemical databases and molecular modeling of drug candidates for enhancement Design and develop monoclonal antibodies and vaccines against MDR organisms of military relevance Design and develop Bacteriophage cocktails for the treatment of MDR organism infection of military relevance Develop and establish polytrauma animal models involving infection Centralize and standardize inventory characterization and reporting of MDR organisms and bacteriophage Conduct gene-deletion or mutagenesis studies on bacterial isolates Implement high-throughput whole genome sequencing Design and deploy bioinformatics pipelines and analytical approaches Communicate research findings to stakeholders, enterprise clients, collaborators, the scientific community and the general public as well as by drafting and coordinating patents, grants, manuscripts, periodic and special reports and other relevant reports (eg, MIC results) routinely Design novel polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and genomic assays and algorithms for detecting resistance determinants Prepare and manage research proposals to NIH and other relevant funding agencies Examples of technical research support requirements may include but not limited to the expertise of Traumatologists of Physiology and Immunology, Phage Biologists, Microbiologists, Structural Biologists, Microbial virulence scientists, Microbial Geneticists, Immunologists, Molecular biologists, Bioinformatics, Animal Research Scientists, Post-doctoral positions across all areas of focus and Laboratory technicians with advanced skill sets.
