This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Superintendent, Library Buildings and Grounds, Assistant Superintendent, Facilities Support Division, Fort Meade Operations and Maintenance. The position performs electrician duties in support of equipment and facilities in the Library of Congress facilities.

Tour of Duty: 2nd Shift: (Monday thru Friday, 2:00 P.M. - 10:30 P.M.)

Electrical Upkeep, Connection, Analysis, Adjustment and Restoration

Connects, adjusts, upkeeps and preserves routine and customary electrical lines, circuits, systems, related equipment and controls. Tasks include troubleshooting electrical devices covering electronic mechanisms in order to separate the cause of the breakdown of electrical control structures, analog/digital panels and solid state motor control circuits in apparatuses. Cases of these are the uninterrupted power systems (UPS); fire distress systems; adjustable speed drives and electric motor starters for air conditioning systems; light system banks and programmed door opening systems engineering multiphase systems; switchgear, switchboards and panel boards; and related electrical equipment.

Evaluates, adjusts and/or repairs electronic stabilizers, electronic dimmer panels, programmed transfer switches, motor control centers, modifiers, small control tool repair, minor power supply lines and circuits used to deliver a variety of power, amperage, stage and incidence requirements to delivery panels, adjustment gear, power and regulator circuits; engineering multiphase systems; thermocouple devices; electrical interference panic and fire alarm systems; crisis cautioning systems; light protection systems; high power light systems with related controls; target apparatuses; AC and DC modification systems; loudspeaker circuits; and associated electrical apparatuses.

Tests equipment using voltmeters ammeters, meg-ohmmeters and other testing apparatuses.

Autonomously works from construction plans, outlines, wiring illustrations, engineering sketches and electrical preservation and restoration instructions.

Troubleshoots, examines and loads new and current electrical lines, tracks, systems and related features, controls and equipment. Decides site of current electrical procedures and service entrances and situates new ones.

Detects difficult-to-find flaws or glitches. Understands and applies the National Electrical Code, local codes, construction plans, designs, wiring illustrations and engineering diagrams and uses trade methods to analyze shared properties, e.g., power, energy drop and current capability in series and matching circuits, inductance, resistance, capacitance, control dynamic, current stream and temperature and span in lone and several raceways, channels, trenches and cable trays.

Leads other trades as Workers and Helpers during cable pulling, tagging, securing, cutting, bending and mounting electrical conduit.

Electrical Apparatus Work

Accomplishes restoration and upkeep work on the electrical systems. Conserves and upkeeps high-tech light systems and the electronic mechanisms of fan motors and programmed door systems.

Works with an extensive selection of typical inhabited and/or trade electrical devices, apparatuses and systems, including electrical wiring systems and related features, controls and equipment in engineering, institutional, workplace and/or suburban buildings in the Library Buildings and Grounds.

Restoration of apparatuses once in a while is accomplished without the original diagrams. The Electrician must research the schematic via the internet or manufacturer or improvise and overhaul the apparatuses without them.

Electrical Design Work

The position performs the electrical aspects of construction and restoration projects. Connects electrical devices in areas for which there may not be complete outlines or graphics accessible due to the age of the facility. The Electrician must adlib to connect the updated circuits and apparatuses in outdated facilities without harmfully affecting the existing design or construction.

Strategizes and lays out craft work including the steering, location, sort, magnitude, measure, stability, weight and safe functioning of electrical lines, routes, systems, apparatuses and controls.

Makes estimations of material and apparatuses needed and submits requests to manager for supplies, equipment and materials essential to accomplish the electrical and electronic responsibilities.

Decides and situates distribution panels, containers, furnishings and networks and connects wiring, links, channel, relays, gears, modifiers and other electrical devices including electrical service entrances.

The incumbent must follow all relevant safety rules, regulations and standard operating procedures. The incumbent must utilize knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. Provides or receives training, either on-the-job or through classroom training, to ensure that all safety practices and equipment are fully utilized. Uses required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Performs other related duties as assigned.
