1st Degree - Senior Media Strategist (Open to Remote)
We are looking for a detail-oriented individual to join our boutique marketing, public relations and advertising firm based in Northern Virginia as a Senior Media Strategist. Our Senior Media Strategist will use their established rapport, credibility, trust, and respect with national media outlets to secure national earned media opportunities for our nonprofit clients.The responsibilities include creation and execution of strategic public relations plans, media pitching, PR training, press event management and other tasks related to executing complex media relations strategies. Position will work within a team of in-house and contract staff to ensure client work is completed on-time and within budget.To be successful as a Senior Media Strategist, you should be self-motivated, creative, energetic, and highly organized with great interpersonal skills.This is a full-time position at 1st Degree, based in our offices in Manassas, Virginia. Remote applications may be considered. This position reports to the Sr. Vice President, Media and Corporate.Job ResponsibilitiesDevelops and implements strategic public relations plans that reflect a full understanding the client's mission and strategy.Designs and manages complex issue campaigns that meet public relations KPI deliverables.Identifies, interviews, researches, and evaluates potential media stories.Pitches news stories to various media outlets including TV, print and radio.Establishes and develops relationships with members of the press.Drafts written message materials including press releases, talking points, pitches, and media alerts.Manages and administers the activities of multiple accounts or industry segments in accordance with client objectives.Collaborates within a team of in-house and contract staff to ensure client work is completed on-time and within budget.Works well under deadline in a fast-paced environment.Performs other duties as required.Required Skills and AbilitiesProven background in placement in national television and print.Have and maintain strong existing producer and reporter relationships.Ability to prepare and present complex materials or issues before a wide variety of audiences.Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.Great interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a variety of communication styles.High level of professionalism with established strong relationships with key stakeholders.Education and Experience5+ years of agency experience in public affairs, public relations, media relations or journalism preferred.Bachelor's degree and legal authorization to work in the US required.About Us1st Degree provides strategic counsel and designs winning public affairs and communications campaigns for nonprofit, association, and government clients.
