The LAMP PHP Developer writes clean, fast PHP to a high standard, in a timely and scalable way that improves the code-base of our products in meaningful ways. Position Overview: Based in Herndon, Virginia , the PHP Developer II is responsible for developing and maintaining Xait's software solutions and related systems as specified by the line manager. Additionally, this position will coach, guide, and participate in the training of junior developers on the team. The employee is responsible for ensuring that Xait adheres to applicable legislation and procedures within relevant functional areas, to demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism, and to work collaboratively and effectively within all levels of the organization. This position reports directly to the Xait, Inc. Business Manager and works in a matrixed organization to provide direct support to the Xait CTO. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Actively participate in product design and specification and give input on functional requirements. Lead the daily code review and QA or TDD activities that involves development. Assist and guide junior team members and other teams in evaluating and diagnosing problems. Maintain the quality of the existing code base and code standards. Develop and implement new functionality and new systems. Perform root cause analysis of technical and process issues. Maintain and improve the existing software applications. Encourage collaboration within team and throughout the business. Participate in design, development, review, and test efforts for improvements. Follow all relevant Xait processes and policies Keep up to date on best practices, methods, and new technologies. Communicate effectively with fellow developers and cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues. Other reasonable duties as assigned. Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree in closely related IT, engineering, or scientific discipline; OR equivalent of 48 hours of accredited college coursework and 5 full years of LAMP PHP development experience. Minimum of 3 years of LAMP Full Stack PHP development experience. Minimum of 3 years of QA or TDD experience. Experience working with agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban. Qualifications Preferred: Bachelor's degree or higher in computer programming, computer engineering, or similarly related IT discipline. 5 years or more of Full Stack LAMP PHP development experience. 5 or more years of QA or TDD experience. 5 years or more experience working within multi-location and multi-time zone SaaS business environment. Some C# experience desirable, but not required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Skilled at software development and implementation within fast-paced SaaS environment. Skilled at development in LAMP Full Stack with strong PHP experience. Intermediate level knowledge of software design patterns. Intermediate level knowledge in agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban. Ability to adhere to quality standards. Ability to effectively communicate technical information. Ability to adjust to the needs of the organization within competing deadlines and priorities. Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required to meet the goals of the company. Ability to effectively work within a highly matrixed organization. Skilled at presenting technical data, recommending solutions and QA and or TDD information to remote and on-site teams, while managing high-stakes situations. Ability to coach and mentor junior development team members. Legal ability to work for any US Employer on US Government Contracts per contract award standards. Physical Demand and Work Environment: Walk, talk, sit, stand, touch, hear, lift up to 10 lbs., sight, use of hands and fingers. Domestic and International travel as required, up to 20 % of the time, to meet the goals of the company. Contact with internal and external work groups, clients, teams, and management.
