Peraton is seeking a Principal Astrodynamics Engineer in our Chantilly, VA office to provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) support to the Space Domain Awareness business area which includes a marquis space resiliency program. As part of our Special Space Systems (S3) operating unit, you will join and provide technical guidance to a very talented, highly motivated and high-performing team with the design, development, integration, test and deployment of complex systems, in an Agile construct, to Full Operational Capability (FOC). As a Principal Astrodynamics Engineer this candidate will have the ability to make mission operations decisions, be THE Astrodynamics SME in S3 and direct new business efforts. This candidate will provide system/aerospace engineering, requirements analysis, system integration, verification and validation testing, and deployment support. Activities associated with this position are algorithm maturation, developing Concept of Operations; developing and analyzing enterprise and system level requirements; conducting impact assessment of new capabilities and proposed changes to an existing software/hardware baseline; conducting technology assessments; performing trade off analyses; and supporting test activities. The Principal Astrodynamics Engineer will provide SME support to the Data Processing System (DPS) algorithm maturation effort and will provide technical and guidance to multiple integrated product teams on potentially multiple programs in S3. The Principal Astrodynamics Engineer will work closely with the program's chief architect, chief systems engineer and product owners to develop and implement system-wide technical solutions. Required Qualifications: You possess an active Top Secret/SCI with Poly clearance and maintenance of clearance thereafter is required. You hold a MS degree in Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline 16+ years of relative, verifiable experience. However, equivalent experience in lieu of a degree will be considered. Knowledge and understanding of Space Operations and the Space Domain Awareness (SDA) environment Experience with full life cycle systems/aerospace engineering to include: requirements analysis, design, architecture, integration and testing. SME in orbital mechanics, orbital dynamics, astrodynamics, orbital propagation, modelling, orbital maneuvers and other on-orbit operations Ability to interpret academic whitepapers and communicate scientific contents effectively to software engineers Efficiency on Microsoft Windows office products such as Powerpoint, Excel, and Word. Government contractor experience with the requirements management and testing processes of Government programs. Candidate must be detail oriented, and a strong communicator able to work and collaborate within a group setting. Desired Qualifications: Familiarity with current IC and Air Force systems and associated policies/procedures is desired, with an emphasis on astrodynamic algorithm maturation.
