The Process Engineer I/II will perform critical engineering work to validate and procure new pilot and production equipment for our state-of-the-art solid state batteries. Responsibilities include identifying suitable equipment, evaluating vendors (OEMs), and supporting sourcing decisions for solid state cell equipment. In addition, you will drive and manage efforts to translate equipment requirements into actionable process development tasks. This will be in the support of procuring validated equipment for pilot and production manufacturing lines at our brand new facility. Finally, you will help implement processes, procedures, and SOPs to improve yield, process capability, and quality. The Process Engineer I/II will be part of a Manufacturing team that works closely with other engineers and scientists as part of a fast-moving, cross-functional team. Analyze different equipment options to balance cost, capability, performance, and capacity while using or collecting data to drive decisions. Support new equipment development from proof-of-concept to pilot and mass production scale. With support from other stakeholders, create and revise Equipment Specifications, P&IDs, Project Schedules, Training Documents, Bill of Materials, and other related documentation to support the acquisition, installation, and commissioning of procured equipment. Lead equipment design and safety reviews, coordinate tasks for receiving equipment, factory & site acceptance testing, equipment performance validation, and transition to operation. Coordinate Facilities changes needed to support newly acquired equipment. Utilizing process engineering skills, contribute to the development of our manufacturing processes. Provide essential feedback to R&D on development required to improve scalability as we work to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing process. The role will be critical to the development and execution of our growth - bring bold yet practical ideas and work with the team to make them a reality. Perform all work in adherence to company environmental, health and safety guidelines. Be proactive in identifying and correcting potential safety hazards. Travel: 10-20% Expected. Ability to occasionally travel both domestically and internationally. Required Qualifications: BS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. BS in Chemistry (or similar) may be considered with relevant experience. 1-3 Years of Industrial Manufacturing Experience 1-3 Years managing CapEx projects ($50k+) to acquire new industrial automation equipment including drafting and managing a project budget, specification reviewal, RFQ process, Installation, SAT/FAT or IQ/OQ/PQ, etc. 1-3 Years Experience with industrial chemical processes in a pilot or production setting. Experience in processes such as mixing, coating, casting, fuel cells, MLCC, semiconductor wafers, roll-to-roll continuous manufacturing, furnaces and/or kilns is important. 0-2 Years Experience in Analytical Chemistry techniques for QC purposes. Statistical analysis skills (SPC, DOE, Minitab, JMP) skills Desired Qualifications: 3-5 years managing projects to acquire new industrial equipment including CAPEX requests, Specification Reviewal, RFQ process, Installation, SAT/FAT or IQ/OQ/PQ, etc. 1-3 Years Experience scaling up manufacturing processes from pilot to full scale production. Experience in one of the following industries: batteries, ceramics, or glass manufacturing. 3D Modeling Experience using a CAD Software Experience with PLC control systems Familiarity with automated roll-to-roll and web handling manufacturing processes. Misc COVID-19 vaccination is required prior to starting. Ability to climb stairs and occasionally lift up to 45 pounds. Ability to work around magnets occasionally.
