Position Summary/Purpose of Position: Performs utility and building mechanical system and equipment infrastructure assessments and oversees the design and replacement/upgrade of mechanical equipment and systems. Performs project management responsibilities for mechanical system upgrade efforts. Provides analysis, design and construction support for the Engineering & Energy (E&E), unit, other FM units and independent college projects and construction activities. Assures that project energy performance complies with the University's energy conservation and reduction goals. Minimum Qualifications: EDUCATION : Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar related technology field. EXPERIENCE : Seven (7) years of experience including design, commissioning, and testing of mechanical infrastructure is required. Experience should be in performing similar duties with complex mechanical utility and building systems. Position requires at least five (5) years' experience in the design of building and infrastructure mechanical systems, including chillers, boilers, pumps, air handling units, fan coil units, chilled and heating water, steam, DX air conditioning, domestic water and specialty plumbing systems. KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS & ABILITIES : Must have demonstrated ability to devise innovative solutions to problems. Must have knowledge and experience designing, constructing and commissioning mechanical systems. Must be knowledgeable about building automation systems and be capable of writing sequences of operation for mechanical systems, and be knowledgeable of building, mechanical and energy codes, products and current best practices for mechanical systems. Must be an effective communicator, both in oral and written form. Must have the ability to use computers and be adept at using AutoCAD, energy modelling, word-processing and spreadsheet software. Preferences: Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred Knowledge and use of hydraulic evaluation software, such as Termis is desirable. Additional Certifications: Incumbent must possess a driver's license, as duties require the incumbent to travel to and from meetings and project sites both on and off campus. If driving a State vehicle, incumbent must possess a valid MD Class C driver's license or equivalent with fewer than six (6) points. The salary hiring range for this position is $99,300-$124,163.
