Job Announcement

The Fairfax-Falls Church CSB is recruiting for a full-time Nurse Practitioner to work at our Adult Detention Center and in one of our outpatient clinic

The CSB is a large public behavioral health care system that serves all of Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. We serve approximately 30,000 clients per year. The CSB provides a comprehensive array of services for children and adults with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness)/ Serious Emotional Disorders, and/or Substance Use Disorders and/or Developmental Disabilities. The CSB provides wide array of services, including:
  • 24 hour residential crises stabilization
  • 24 hour 7 days per week in house psychiatric emergency services
  • partial hospitalization
  • outpatient and case management
  • residential and outpatient medical detox
  • outpatient addiction medicine
  • PACT/homeless outreach
  • short and long term residential treatment for co-occurring disorders
  • jail diversion
  • forensics/jail based
The CSB has a large medical staff that includes psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, primary care providers, a pediatrician, nurses (LPN, RN CNS), and a physician assistant.

Salaries are based on experience and specific skill sets.

Illustrative Duties

  • Provides services in consultation and collaboration with a licensed patient care team physician as part of a patient care team.
  • Performs physical examinations and records findings in clients' records;
  • Performs orders and interprets laboratory work and diagnostic procedures;
  • Assesses state of clients' health by obtaining medical, psychological and social histories;
  • Confers with physicians on abnormal results requiring physician's intervention;
  • Develops treatment plans, including prescribing medications, reviewing plans with clients to assess level of understanding;
  • Monitors treatments as required;
  • Refers clients to other health care providers;
  • Provides health education, counseling and guidance to clients and families;
  • Develops health education materials;
  • Develops and presents various training and orientation programs for nursing personnel, health care providers and other agency staff members.


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of public health nurse practitioner/medical theory and practice;
  • Knowledge of various laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures;
  • Knowledge of effects of prescribed medications and when their usage is indicated;
  • Ability to obtain histories and perform physical examinations, laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures;
  • Ability to assess medical records and results of tests;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, medical professionals, health care professionals and citizens.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICAITONS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus a master's degree in nursing as a clinical nurse practitioner;
Depending upon area of assignment, may require one year of experience as a certified nurse practitioner.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Licensed to Practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Has obtained national certification as a nurse practitioner.

Some positions within this classification will require additional certifications and licenses, as defined by the position description and posted in job announcements.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter.

This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies).

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working with clients who have serious mental illnesses/substance use disorders in a community setting.
  • Experience working in a correctional institution/forensics.
  • Experience working with an electronic medical record
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is located in general office. Ability to independently transport self and fulfill duties at other sites; to observe, process, and document clinical information; access/input/retrieve computer data; use medical equipment; and administer injections. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Panel Interview and may include a practical exercise.
