Job Announcement

Performs administrative and office support activities for one or more supervisors using independent application of knowledge of standard office methods and procedures. Duties may include fielding telephone calls, dispatching, receiving and directing visitors, word processing, creating spreadsheets and presentations, filing, scheduling routine meetings, producing and electronically distributing simple documents, maintaining a system for tracking the progress of work, performing simple screening and sorting of mail, acting as back up to other administrative positions, proofreading, and preparing of variety of standard forms for routing and approval. Basic skills in the use of applicable Microsoft software as well as basic Internet research capability, and strong communication skills. Engages in safety working practices and complies with Solid Waste safety programs and guidelines. Complies with the DPWES Safety Competencies. Performs other duties as required.

Note: The assigned functional areas of the position are general administrative support and customer service.

Salary: The salary offer will not exceed the mid-point (or $48,178.42) of the advertised compensation range. Promotional rules apply for current Fairfax County Government and Fairfax County Public Schools employees.

Employment Standards

Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and one year of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

Knowledge of standard office administrative practices and procedures. Extensive experience and proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience using automated technologies such as databases and Web-based online applications to enter, modify and pull data for reporting purposes. Extensive experience creating and managing spreadsheets/databases. Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to pay attention to detail. The ability to exercise tact, discretion, and initiative. Well-organized, flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. Experience working independently with minimum supervision in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment with a strong commitment to customer service. Ability to juggle multiple projects with superb accuracy. Ability to operate a two-way radio. Experience monitoring a Fleet Tracking System. Advanced experience and skills working and navigating within an Enterprise Resource Planning System, such as SAP, Lawson, PeopleSoft, etc.

Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit, kneel, crouch, reach, crawl, lift and handle materials with manual dexterity. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist and shoulder movements. Ability to walk, negotiate or traverse property sites that may be undergoing construction or having terrain that is not level. Work requires performing tasks in an environment in which raw waste is present. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
