SmithBucklin, a 100 percent employee-owned association management company, is looking for an experienced Sr Manager, Accounting and Finance to join our 16-person Financial Management & Accounting Services (FMAS) team in Chicago. Our FMAS unit provides client organizations with a comprehensive set of financial and accounting services including monthly financial statement processing and reporting, financial review and discussion analysis, cash management, multi-currency transactions and Value Added Tax (VAT) compliance for international events. We also generate customized reports, dashboards and other tools to keep board members informed and able to make timely and effective decisions. The Sr. Manager, Accounting and Finance will be overseeing full-service association management client organizations and report to the VP, Financial Management and Accounting Services. What You Will DoFinancial & Operational ManagementMaintain compliance for cash receipts, AP/AR, journal entry review, financial statement preparation and review, and monthly bank statement reconciliationEnsure the accounting staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with GAAPEnsure timeliness, accuracy and usefulness of financial and management reporting; oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statementsOversee budgeting and monitor progress against approved budgets; present operational metrics internally and externallyOversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements to client organizationsManage cash flow, budgeting, and periodic forecasting; direct, financial, project-based and client accounting Executive Director & Board SupportPrepare and review monthly variance analysis and MD&A with executive directorsReview monthly financial dashboards with executive directorsCreate and analyze periodic forecasts, including cash flow forecastsPrepare financial statement package and analysis for quarterly finance committee callProvide strategic financial oversight to executive director's and finance committee membersAttend finance committee and board calls, as necessary, providing financial management and accounting supportTravel to annual conference and board/finance committee meetings when neededProvide financial modeling and analysis when required Team ManagementManage a team of accountants; perform staff reviews, train and developOversee the financial management and accounting oversight for 15-20 client organizationsReview and manage the daily/monthly accounting activity for each accountant assignedMaintain day-to-day relations with executive management, executive directors, and client staff teams Accounting & AdministrationEnsure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial proceduresOversee client industry practices to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functionalityCoordinate and supervise the audit process for client organizations and review annual audits with client teams and finance committeesCoordinates preparation of 990 and 990T with external audit/tax firmReview and approve 1099's and 1096 Planning & Policy ManagementEnsure financial policies of client organizations are being followed and adhered toCoordinate the development and monitoring of client budgets and forecastsReview and ensure client investment policies are maintained and adhered toAssist with and maintain relationships with client investment advisorsManage RFP process for audit/tax firm when required StrategyParticipate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior client financial management teamOversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with SmithBucklin's Core Values and Strategic Goals of Client Organizations This Role Might Be for You If You are a hands-on manager with the integrity and ability to work in a highly matrixed environmentYou enjoy effectively developing, mentoring and training staffYou possess strong business acumen, ethics and valuesYou are a self-starter that enjoys working both autonomously and collaborativelyYou have excellent communication skills (specifically with non-accountants) and confidence in presenting to executive management teamsYou are a decisive decision-maker with strong financial, accounting and analytical skillsYou have the ability to travel up to 5% Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year institutionApproximately 8+ years of relevant accounting experience, to include 5+ years of people management experienceProficiency with basic computer skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Preferred QualificationsCPAFinancial management and analysis skillsExperience with not for profit financial managementExperience with Epicor accounting software Where Do You Fit?
