Position is responsible for planning and executing media strategies for National Geographic magazine, content, Kids and Family franchise, podcasts and other content in the NG Media portfolio, with an emphasis on the Kids and Family franchise, Travel content and podcast portfolio. The Publicist will work closely with the Sr. Manager and Sr. Director, reporting to the Sr. Director, and will work hand in hand with the external PR agency for NG Media.Responsibilities:In conjunction with the NG Media PR team and agency, plan and execute media strategies in support of the NG Media portfolio, with an emphasis on the Kids and Family franchise, Travel content and podcasts. Efforts will enhance brand awareness and increase visibility of content across media outlets and consumers to grow online traffic and generate subscriptions.Develop compelling pitches and proactively identify media opportunities.Conduct proactive media outreach and prepare promotional materials and other comprehensive documents, including press releases, media alerts, talking points, briefing documents, assets, etc.Coordinate interviews and media opportunities in a timely manner and respond to time sensitive press requests.Establish and maintain strong relationships with media contacts.Help promote our talent to key audiences, by securing media placements, providing media training, raising awareness of their public profiles through speaking opportunities, etc. This entails working closely with Nat Geo talent and contributors to learn more about their projects, coordinate interviews, etc.Staff talent and events, as needed.Provide support for the NG Media PR/Comms team on all relevant projects, including media list maintenance, meeting agendas, mailings, coverage reports, notes and reporting.Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or related field preferred; 3-5 years experience in PR, media relations or related field.National media contacts across print/digital, radio/podcast, and broadcast outlets and knowledge of news media.Ability to find and develop stories and drive brand/project visibility - from creating major moments to maintaining a drumbeat of ongoing pitches.Ability to provide essential support for press initiatives including strategic thinking, research and writing.Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once and to work independently.Experience preparing media lists.Capacity to work with minimal daily supervision and the ability to exercise strong independent judgment.Must be proactive, reliable, resourceful and have great attention to detail.Ability to juggle multiple projects, change priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Excellent writing and verbal skills.Washington, DC based preferable but not required.We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
