You'll join a team of dedicated professionals who are shaping the stories about how our employees are pioneering the future and reimagining technologies in space.The location for this position is flexible as long as you are located near a major Northrop Grumman Space Systems facility in order to satisfy onsite requirements from time to time, at the discretion of the reporting director and needs of the business. (Major locations include: Dulles, VA, Baltimore, MD, Chandler, AZ, Huntsville, AL, Roy, UT, Colorado Springs, CO, Redondo Beach, CA, San Diego, CA).The Media Relations Manager is responsible for ensuring all Space Systems sector media engagements align and support the company's overall media strategy, reflecting priorities at both the business and company level. As part of that responsibility, the Manager supports business communicators to identity the most impactful and strategic opportunities are aligned to the company's media engagement strategy, including opportunities to promote important milestones, enhance customer engagement events, and more. In this position, you work in constant collaboration with other communicators across the company to help inform the strategy and approach to your media and public relations communications on behalf of Space Systems sector.The Media Relations Manager is also responsible for ensuring company spokespeople are prepared for media events and all logistics are secured in addition to engaging with reporters and public affairs officers, when necessary, and ensuring those engagements are properly tracked and shared. In this role, you will also lead the media monitoring requirements associated with the business and enterprise priorities for which the Space Systems sector is aligned. In addition, you play a critical role in overseeing the enterprise public release process for the sector and supervise the work of the Public Release Coordinator.If you are a strategic media relations professional who enjoys a collaborative work environment with a strong ability to work autonomously, an innovative spirit with a passion for strategic thinking, and an interest in shaping our position in the space industry, please read on.How you will make a difference:Lead an external earned media portfolio designed to elevate company thought leadership on priority technology focus areas that support an enterprise narrative focused on innovationPartner with communications colleagues across the Space Systems sector to develop a strategic approach to media relations, including proactive and reactive media interviews, pitches, events, news products, digital presence, and moreWork in partnership with communicators across the sector to prepare and position company-wide subject matter experts for thought leadership opportunities across earned channels as well as proper public release of related materials and maintain coordination and collaboration with the Brand team on a steady social presence/narrative to promote the business prioritiesEnsure development of effective media messaging and materials: pitches, press releases, media training and briefingsSupport crisis communications and related responses to queries for the sectorStay informed on industry news and flag issues and trends for leadersLead, mentor and develop media and public relations professionals across the companySkills for success:Experience developing and executing strategic media relations plans to achieve business objectives and advance thought leadershipAn ability to identify and leverage news cycles to advance company thought leadership in priority focus areas; execute press events from conference calls to media interviews, site visits and other press events and support internal media training, messaging sessions and external media engagementsEffective AP writing and editing skills, with an ability to draft all types of news content from news releases and news features to long form articles for placement on owned channelsAn ability to confidently and independently interact with executive leadershipComfort with change in a fast-paced, empowered work environment with strong collaboration and alignment to company prioritiesStrategic thinking, planning and decision-makingHigh level of attention to detail and creativityA commitment to quality work and accountability for resultsBasic qualifications:Bachelor's degree and minimum of 10 years of media relations, communications, public relations or public affairs for a medium- to large-sized organization or Master's degree and minimum of 8 years of media relations, communications, public relations or public affairs for a medium- to large-sized organizationExperience leading peopleDemonstrated knowledge in the developing, deploying and activating media & communication campaigns with measurable business impactMust be able to obtain and maintain a security clearanceAbility to travel up to 25% of the time; travel includes intra-office within the DC metro area, as well as other sites, in support of the business as neededPreferred qualifications:Demonstrated success understanding and navigating complex, global organizationsTrack record of delivering measurable media coverage and demonstrated strong relationships with PR agency and media agency partnersExperience developing productive relationships with executivesExperience in technology, aerospace, defense or other science-related business or government fieldSound judgement in decision making and leadership actions with capabilities to drive change through creative and/or other disruptive methods, ideas and approachesExperience with CISION Media Monitoring & Measurement and MuckRack reporter database toolsFamiliarity with and/or existing relationships with key journalists in across aerospace and defense mediaSalary Range: $124,700.00 - $187,100.00Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay . Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
