AAR P's Community, State and National Affairs (CSN) team includes Government Relations, Programs, Volunteer Engagement, Community Outreach and Advocacy at the federal, state and local levels. It delivers on AARP's social mission by educating and engaging people 50-plus and their families, strengthening communities, and championing issues that help give people financial and health security.

The Program Associate provides day-to-day administrative, program, and special project support for National Retired Teachers Association: AARP's Educator Community (NRTA) staff, partners, and retired educator volunteers. The Program Associate manages the NRTA database, compiles reports, and assist with developing training (virtual and in-person). They also use various technologies and graphic software in support of NRTA. The Program Associate will play an important role in successfully achieving NRTA goals in compliance with AARP policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the first point of contact and provides customer service to answer questions from the leaders of the state Retired Educator Associations (REAs). This person also handles all materials, requests, and logistics for NRTA: AARP's Educator Community (NRTA).
  • Provides professional administrative support directly to manager and/or functional area.Works collaboratively across AARP and NRTA with outside partners and the REAs to provide needed client services in an expeditious and effective manner.
  • Schedules meetings for departmental staff, reserves conference rooms, catering, and AV equipment. Handles all the preparation and logistics for NRTA meetings, conferences, and seminars for the REA network and the NRTA staff. Makes travel arrangements and prepares travel expense report forms.
  • Manages the NRTA database. Generates and compiles reports from the database. Work, when appropriate, with IT on database enhancements, upgrades, and testing of the system
  • Assists with the development of training (virtual and in-person) to support volunteer and staff partners.
  • Routes matters requiring specific action(s) to appropriate staff. Conducts follow-up to ensure that actions are expedited. Processes administrative functions often involving sensitive and/or confidential issues.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an Associate degree in business or related field and 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
  • Training related and volunteer coordination experience helpful.
  • Fully proficient or able to quickly learn Brand Resource Center and Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of how to use digital, new media and software technologies and tools, including AARP's new learning management system and volunteer portal for volunteers and external partners.
