Summary

The Department of the Treasury's Recent Graduates Program affords developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. Successful applicants are placed in a dynamic, developmental program with the potential to lead to a civil service career in the Federal Government.

Responsibilities

Following the completion of program requirements, selectees may be considered for non-competitive conversion to a career-conditional or term appointment. All conversion requirements will be identified in the Participant Agreement. Program requirements include but are not limited to:
  • Successful completion of at least 1-year of continuous service;
  • Completion of at least 40 hours of interactive training;
  • Demonstration of successful job performance; and
  • Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Recent Graduate may be converted.

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. You will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this developmental position.
-Monitor and assess audit coordination follow-up and reporting activities across Treasury Bureaus and Offices; utilize Treasury audit management system to track audit activities, generate analytical reports, identify trends, and resolve discrepancies; and perform the day-to-day maintenance of audit data including working with bureaus and offices on data fixes.

-Participate in review and evaluation of the current state of the audit management system and its functional and reporting capabilities in order to make recommendations for improvements in the audit follow-up and monitoring process and/or replacement of the system.

-Participate and assist with conducting oversight of all Treasury Bureaus and Offices internal control activities to ensure controls are appropriate to mitigate risks to the Agency, including collection, review, and consolidation of related Bureau and Office deliverables.

    To be eligible for the Recent Graduates Program, applicants must have, within the previous 2 years*, completed all educational requirements for a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying institution.     *Veterans who, due to a military service obligation, were precluded from applying to a Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the 2 year eligibility period may have their eligibility period extended so that they receive the full 2 years of eligibility. The remaining 2-year eligibility period will begin upon his or her release or discharge from active duty. The veteran's eligibility period may not extend beyond 6 years from the date of completion of all requirements of an academic course of study.

    The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

    Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes:
    -Providing advice on policy, implementation, and compliance with internal control requirements. OR
    -Conducting internal control reviews to ensure reliability of reporting, effective and efficient operations, and compliance with laws and regulations. OR
    -Conducting financial statement audits or performance audits. OR
    -Assisting with performing audit coordination and monitoring activities, including tracking audits, monitoring implementation of planned corrective actions, and reporting on audit activity and trends. OR
    -Utilizing automated systems for audit tracking or internal control assessments.

    OR
    Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
    OR
    Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
    OR
    LL.M., if related
    OR
    You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. A combination of education and experience. Only graduate level education in excess of 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours), may be used to combine education and experience.

    For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes:
    -Assisting with conducting internal control reviews to ensure reliability of reporting, effective and efficient operations, and compliance with laws and regulations. OR
    -Assisting with audits of financial statements or audits of compliance with specific criteria. OR
    -Ability to collect, analyze, evaluate, and interpret data.

    A master's or equivalent graduate degree.
    OR
    2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
    OR
    LL.B. or J.D., if related.
    OR
    A combination of education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
