Who We Are:Matchbox opened its first location in 2003 and quickly became known for wood-fired pizzas, mini burgers, fresh salads and chef-inspired entres, like pan-seared sea bass and oven-roasted filet mignon. We like to call it elevated American bistro fare, crafted from high quality ingredients with a chef at the helm in every kitchen.By the end of our founding year, matchbox had become a neighborhood fixture and earned the honor of Washington, DC's "Best New Restaurant" of 2003 by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington .Eighteen years later, matchbox has grown to eleven restaurants in Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia and Florida. We've been successful over the years because we've stayed true to our original beliefs and continue to be inspired by creating friendly, high energy gathering places with delicious food and drinks that bring people together.Summary of Essential FunctionsPrepares food items, following standard recipes and procedures within specified timeReads a prep list and preps items as assignedProperly measures and assembles ingredients required for preparing the standardCuts and/or portions meat, fish and poultryMay use a slicerAccepts or rejects ingredients based on quality and quantityCleans, organizes, stocks, and maintains work area, walk-in refrigerator, reach-in refrigerator, cooler drawers, prep, and dry storage area, which may include bending, reaching, stooping, lifting, and working with cleaning agentsRinses and cuts raw food productsCooks on open flame stove and moves food in/out of industrial ovensMay be exposed to allergens such as nuts, seeds, soy, shellfish, and dairyTastes, smells, and views food to ensure adherence to quality standardsQualificationsA minimum of 6 months experience in high volume restaurantHigh school diploma (or equivalent) encouragedCertification in food safety and sanitation a plusAble to follow recipes and instructions, including making conversionsKnowledge of food safety, sanitation and proper handling proceduresAble to work flexible shifts and schedules, inclusive of breakfast shifts, weekends and some holidaysAble to work calmly and effectively under pressureHigh energy and stamina.
