Recognized by the State of Virginia in Environmental Excellence, Prince William County Department of Public Works is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Maintenance & Operations Technician at the County's Award-Winning Landfill. If you have experience operating Heavy Equipment such as Dozers, Loaders, Excavators, and Articulated Dump Trucks the Solid Waste Division is looking for you. ABOUT THIS ROLE: As a Maintenance & Operations Technician in the County's Solid Waste Division you will work with an innovative Landfill Operations team operating heavy equipment such as loaders, Dozers, excavators, articulated dump trucks and Compactors for the purpose of placing, packing, and covering municipal solid waste. PREFERENCES: A successful candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment with basic knowledge of solid waste regulations; dedicated to conserving the environment; able to prepare and maintain accurate logs including needed load records, vehicle hours, and pre trip reports; perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment and vehicles; and have knowledge of construction methods and procedures related to drainage and road maintenance and improvement. SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: s hift schedules are established to cover our 7 day a week, 361 day a year operation. MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or GED and 1 year of related experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Incumbents in this class typically require: Valid Driver's License Some positions require Class A CDL and / or a Registered Technician Certification or Commercial Applicator Certification for pesticides. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Positions in this class typically require: crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions . Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises.
