POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Finance leads the day-to-day financial operations of National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, with management responsibility over the Finance Department, and provides staff support for the Finance, Audit, and Investment committees. As a member of NCJW's leadership team, they play a critical role ensuring cost effectiveness and efficiency in addressing issues related to organizational growth and development and delivery of our strategy. This position works closely with department managers and serves as the principal liaison to the external auditor and vendors. NCJW is in a growth mode and we are looking for someone with an expertise in change management to shift us to new systems and processes. The Director of Finance ensures that financial systems and procedures are in place to support timely and accurate reporting, forecasting, effective planning, program implementation and financial oversight. This position oversees the budget preparation process and assists with budget presentations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : * Provide strategic guidance and leadership regarding the policies, processes and systems necessary to manage the organization's financial and administrative operations in an effective and efficient manner. * Manage all financial operations of the organization including cash management, accounting, forecasting, and risk management activities to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and rules for non-profits. * Oversee all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with GAAP and best practices. * Foster a collaborative working relationship across the organization to ensure effective budget preparation, monitoring, and linking actual results back to strategic priorities established by NCJW's Governing Board and the executive management team. * Work in partnership with fundraising and development staff to ensure timely and accurate recording and reporting of revenue results. Partner with development and program teams on solicitations, review grant proposals and budgets prior to submission to foundations and other funders. Work with Fund Development team to develop budgets for grants and prepare financial reports for grantors as requested. * Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for the executive management team, Finance Committee, and the Board. * Lead audit preparations and manage the ongoing relationship with the external auditors to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. * Oversee grant-making and contractual agreements, including development of policies, processes and systems to manage risk and compliance. Manage the finance team consisting of a senior accountant and staff accountant/ * Oversee all insurance coverage to assure adequate coverage for the organization and Board members. Work directly with insurance broker/agency; review competitive bids and make recommendations regarding insurance coverage. * Work with Treasurer and Investment Committee to monitor performance of the organization's Investments managed by a third party. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE * Undergraduate degree in accounting required, MBA is strongly preferred. CPA a plus. * Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience in accounting management in the nonprofit sector. * Demonstrated fiduciary experience and in-depth knowledge of accounting rules including those specifically focused on non-profit organizations. * A track record of process improvement, in addition to setting long-term financial goals. * Familiarity with QuickBooks software preferred. SKILLS REQUIRED * Demonstrated critical thinking and expertise in designing financial management strategies. * Strong and proven organizational and leadership skills; comfortable with a high level of visibility, responsibility, and accountability. * Highly skilled at transition and implementation of new systems and processes * Strong manager with emphasis on team building, staff empowerment and career development. * Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to develop positive and productive relationships and decisively build buy-in across the organization. * Ability to collaborate with all Program Managers and colleagues SALARY AND BENEFITS Salary range is $110 - $125k depending on experience, comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance and generous vacation and holiday schedule.
