Job Description

Overview: During the pandemic health situation, students will learn at home or at school with an online teacher. To help ensure the students remain attentive in the classroom, ACPS will employ a "Classroom Monitor" who is an adult that observes the students while they receive virtual instruction from the online teacher. The classroom monitor ensures the students stay engaged in their learning; laptops and classroom instruction will be followed per the instruction of the online teacher (using Zoom video-conference technology).

The monitor:
  • contacts the school front office daily for a count/names of student attendance
  • consistently directs students to the online teacher for any questions about the classwork

The monitor does not:

  • provide classroom instruction, check homework, or collect any documents
  • discipline the student other than the modest verbal direction

Duties. Under the virtual supervision of the virtual teacher, the monitor will manage and support students while facilitating remote classroom instruction. With guidance from the virtual teacher, the Monitor may assist students with the basic operations of the laptop computer. Under the immediate supervision of a school principal or school administrator, the Monitor also helps students to follow school safety protocols and other duties as requested by the building principal (e.g., fire drills).
