This position is located in Region II, Division of Reactor Projects, Branch 4, North Anna Nuclear Plant in Mineral, VA.
The supervisor is Stewart Bailey.
This position is Non Bargaining Unit.
Relocation expenses associated with interview and/or relocation will be paid. This position requires Minimal travel.
Selectee will be subject to Office of Government Ethics Confidential Financial Disclosure reporting requirements.

The relocation incentive for the North Anna Resident Office is 20%.

The successful candidate will perform the full range of Senior Resident Inspector (PWR/TL) duties.

Duties include but are not limited to:

1. Conduct in-depth inspections and investigations to assure compliance with design specifications and the conditions of the operating license.

2. Serve as the lead NRC inspector assigned to the North Anna Nuclear Plant.

3. Ensure that the inspection program is completed in accordance with schedules specified in the Inspection Manual or other official documents.

4. Plan the scope of inspections at assigned plant.

5.Oversee the preparation of inspection reports that describe observations made and conclusions reached regarding the licensee's safety performance and conformance with NRC requirements, provisions of the operating licensees, and applicable industry codes and standards.

6. Provide technical and programmatic leadership to a small staff by coordinating and managing their work and reviewing and evaluating technical findings and conclusions.

Individual must be a fully qualified inspector in accordance with Manual Chapter 1245.

Occasional travel - Position requires up to 10% travel.

You must meet the qualifications for this position by no later than 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position. APPLICANTS SHOULD NOTE THAT THE TOUR LENGTH OF A RESIDENT INSPECTOR AT A SINGLE SITE IS LIMITED TO SEVEN (7) YEARS BY COMMISSION POLICY. Any applicant selected for this position must meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the agency's resident inspector relocation bonus policy, including signing a mobility agreement.


In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

1. Knowledge of nuclear power plant operations, systems, integrated facility operations, and design consistent with that gained through assignment as a resident inspector.

2. Ability to observe, evaluate, and assess the operations of nuclear power plants including events.

3. Ability to apply NRC rules, regulations, policies, guides and review plans in the review or inspection of reactor operations, maintenance, engineering and plant support.

4. Ability to lead, train, and assess performance of other assigned inspectors and part-time office administrative assistant

5. Ability to present technical information both orally and in writing.

In addition to the basic requirements, to qualify for this position you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is defined as: Experience that demonstrates your ability to implement the NRC regulatory program, including application of NRC standards, and rules and regulations for nuclear facilities. Have sufficient knowledge of basic nuclear technology, operating safety procedures, radiological safety, codes, standards, and procedures.

A bachelor's degree or higher degree in a relevant professional engineering discipline e.g., (nuclear, electrical, mechanical, metallurgical, structural, mechanical) from a school of engineering with at least one professional engineering curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. If you do not possess such a professional engineering degree, you may still satisfy the professional knowledge requirements if you have current Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in one of the relevant disciplines from any U.S. State or Territory, or if you successfully passed an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) written examination administered by a State Board of Engineering Examiners; or if you have either a related professional degree or at least 60 semester hours of specified engineering-related college courses combined with at least a year of professional engineering work experience performed under professional engineer supervision and guidance.
