This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office (CWMD). The CWMD's mission is to lead DHS efforts and coordinates with domestic and international partners to safeguard the United States against CBRN and health security threats.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Technical Advisor ST 0301 00, your typical work assignments may include:

- Reviews short and long term progress and execution through technical analysis of hardware and software, assessing systems involving detection and communication equipment, and resolving capability limitations due to technical issues:

- Coordinates the development of requirements, design and technical priorities to assist CWMD in delivering key projects and products to operational stakeholders.

- Identifies and implements technical processes for the acceptance, testing, and troubleshooting of detection systems from vendors. Provide technical assistance and subject matter expertise to federal, state and local stakeholders during these processes.

- Perform technical assessments of detection equipment and data transfer systems and provide recommendations and solutions to correct deficiencies and gaps.

- Advise leadership on technical support for Training and Exercise requirements during preparation for and execution of technical assistance visits, workshops and exercises.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must possess all of the Mandatory Technical Qualifications (MTQs). These qualifications would typically be acquired through education, experience, and training which reflect progressive development and achievement in leading teams and/or projects for a comprehensive business program in a complex organization. Typically, experience of this nature is gained at or above the GS-15 grade level in the Federal service, or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector or nongovernmental organizations. An individual's total experience and education must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Mandatory Technical Qualifications (MTQs):

MTQ 1. Mastery skill and ability to analyze operational/technical information and ability to effectively communicate highly technical information and concepts to non-technical audiences such as law enforcement, first responders and program managers.
MTQ 2. Demonstrates superior knowledge and technical experience in radiation detection
instrumentation/systems, application and product management, including system hardware and software, capabilities, limitations, and employment.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

You will be evaluated on the quality and extent of your total accomplishments, education and experience. Your resume and mandatory technical qualifications will be evaluated by an SES rating and ranking panel, and afterwards, highly qualified candidates may undergo an interview and a reference check. The DHS Executive Resources Board (ERB) will review results and make recommendations on final selections to the appointing authority where final interviews and reference checks may occur.
