This individual is responsible for the timely, courteous, and competent transportation of Emergency Center (EC) patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed, as well as equipment and supplies. Receives assignments for specific trips and associated tasks from EC leadership. Assists in maintaining and readying equipment for patient use. Accepts additional assignments related to support functions as is needed to provide service excellence to patients, visitors, and hospital staff. Location: Holy Cross Health has two hospitals and four healthcare centers all a short driving distance from Washington DC and Baltimore, MD
Primary responsibility if the transport of Emergency Department patients within the admitting area, ED department and other diagnostic areas of the hospital as assigned. Will also assist with basic restocking of supplies. Must be able to handle responsibilities in a fast paced environment.

Minimum Licensure/Certification Required (if applicable):

CPR certification required within (12) month.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

High SchooI Diploma or GED equivalent required

Skills:Ability to read and write information in English regarding trip assignments and to confirm patient's identification. Ability to use alpha-numeric pager and telephone.

Customer service core competencies for ability to deal directly with patients, their families, and hospital staff.

Ability to read and comprehend policies and procedures as well as the ability to work independently.

Experience:A minimum of one to three months experience in a healthcare setting, especially in a role, which interacts with patients, is preferred. Verifiable patient transport experience is extremely desirable.

Equipment:Training in use of the equipment used to transport patients is recommended.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: Very heavy work. Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity: The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.)

Environmental Conditions: The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
