Department: Multicultural Services
General Summary:
This position supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital by serving to facilitate medical and other communication among patients, family members, visitors, and Holy Cross Hospital clinical and non-clinical staff, and by working to minimize linguistic and cultural barriers.

The interpreter will be responsible for providing direct Spanish-language interpretation services, primarily, throughout the clinical units that comprise the Women & Children's Services department, and, as needed, throughout Holy Cross Hospital (inpatient and outpatient units, and administrative departments). Interpretation encounters will involve interaction with patients, family members, and visitors. The interpreter will make regular visits to the Patient Care Units, or interact remotely via telephone, to assess the need for interpreter services and/or will respond to direct calls from Hospital staff. The position requires a candidate who possesses excellent verbal and written fluency in English and Spanish, and the ability to interact tactfully and empathetically. Good judgment in the treatment of confidential patient information also is necessary.

What you will need:

Required:
  • The candidate should possess a university-level education (Bachelor's degree preferred) in human/social services, health education, nursing, or allied health science.
  • Importantly, the individual must possess experience in working with a limited-English-proficient (LEP) population.
  • Fluency in oral and written communication, in both English and Spanish. (Successful completion of an assessment of language skills will be necessary.)
