Washington Post Live is looking for a versatile video producer for our digital programming platform. The ideal candidate will be an experienced visual journalist who demonstrates excellent storytelling, news judgment, and production skills working within a multimedia newsroom environment. The video producer will work closely with the editorial team, and should be on top of current news events, with a strong working knowledge and experience covering U.S. politics.

We are looking for a creative storyteller with a sharp attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. This person will write, edit, and produce content but will also support all video production needs. We are looking for a producer who is comfortable doing extensive video research, crafting news-driven explainers, and biography based introductory videos incorporating both graphics and video, all while operating at the highest ethical standards of journalism. The ideal candidate will be interested in all forms of visual journalism - from video and photography to still and motion graphics, and is an excellent communicator with the ability to interface with editorial producers on our team and journalists across the company. This position reports to the executive producer.

Responsibilities
  • Editing original video, graphic and photo content using the Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop
  • Assisting with video production, and pulling video elements
  • Pulling live clips from WPL programs to post on social media
  • Extensive video research
  • Writing/creating graphic slates within videos
  • Posting videos and show transcriptions on website


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required (TV/Film/Journalism or related field) or equivalent work experience (2 years in newsroom or similar environment)
  • Experience with editing on the Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop or similar creative suite
  • Experience with After Effects is strongly preferred
  • Strong editorial, writing and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to perform duties under deadlines
  • Experience with creative video research
  • Working knowledge of the best types of videos for variety of social media platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook
  • Must be familiar with various media formats
  • An understanding of the current digital landscape of live streaming
  • Familiarity with content publishing/CMS tools desirable
  • A strong understanding of social media and managing social media accounts desirable
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule which may include working extra hours until deadlines are met
