Will support the Manager of Billing & Collections.

The Business Operations Supervisor will be responsible for successfully supporting the supervision, evaluation, and improvement of the respective Business Operations team. Performs supervisory duties including, hiring, training, coaching, evaluating and the day-to-day management of the team. Emphasis is placed on resolving issues in a timely manner, patient and stakeholder satisfaction, staff development, and achieving fiscal goals. The Supervisor would also be responsible for reviewing and updating team goals in a timely manner.


Minimum Education
Associate's Degree Relevant experience beyond the minimum required work experience may substitute the educational requirement on a 1-to-1 ratio." (i.e., one year of relevant work experience equals one year of required education). (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
3 years of experience in a hospital billing environment; Bilingual a plus. (Required)
1 year Supervisory experience (Preferred)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required
Ability to delegate assignments and follow through on details is essential.
Excellent internal and external customer service skills required.
Must have working knowledge of medical billing systems.
Meet the overall objectives and deadlines in a timely manner for assigned projects.
Knowledge of CPT/HCPC codes
Ability to supervise, counsel, train, and develop staff. Advanced technical skills, as appropriate.
Must possess ability to be effective and efficient in a fast paced environment, managing multiple competing tasks and priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft products

Functional Accountabilities
Operations Management

  • Implements the department's goals through efficient management of day-to-day operations of department; troubleshoots operational issues and develops action plans to resolve

  • Collaborates with Manager and/or management team on significant operational issues/barriers and develops action plans to resolve
  • Assists Manager and/or management team in development, implementation, and evaluation of services, programs, policies and procedures, and performance standards to achieve departmental goals
  • Takes on project assigned by team Manager or Revenue Cycle Director
  • Ensures staff are meeting specific departmental goals while adhering to applicable policies and procedures
  • Works with manager to ensure department is meeting budgetary goals
  • Works with manger to provide monthly reports and identify outcomes and opportunity for improvements

Quality Control Performance Improvement Initiatives

  • Assist with developing and implementing systems to monitor performance and quality.

  • Assist with staff communication providing updates, setting individual staff goals and reviewing productivity reports with team members
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives as identified by management team
  • Ensure staff maintain up to date policies and procedures for Children's National Hospital and Payers
  • Work with Manager to update training material and initiatives as needed

Human Resource Management and Staff Development

  • Assist with hiring, training, orientation and mentoring staff.

  • Provides ongoing and timely feedback with staff
  • Conducts performance evaluation and manages staff performance goals
  • Provide individual action plans as directed by Manager
  • In collaboration with Manager, performs necessary disciplinary actions in a timely manner
  • Establishes work schedules for staff, and works with Manager to address recruitment and retention objectives

Administrative Duties

  • Performs administrative tasks such as payroll and time keeping

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Represent the team in clearing obstacles to high performance
  • Hire staff and develop their capabilities
  • Monitor and promote strong employee engagement


  • Encourage and share new ways of making the right work easier to do
  • Recognize and share incremental improvements in operations
  • Promote the success of organizational and department initiatives by clearly aligning programs to the mission
