Help make WMATA safer and more efficient as an Assistant Project Manager in the SAFE department.

Metro is seeking two Assistant Project Managers to lead various high-profile initiatives across the Authority. This role is critical in achieving WMATA's regulatory requirements as well as its internal strategy. Minimum Qualifications:

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Transportation, or a related field
    • In lieu of Bachelor's Degree, a high school diploma or GED and four (4) years of diversified experience in project management and administration to include the below experience as well.

Experience
  • A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in project management and administration.

Certification/Licensure
  • N/A

Preferred Education
  • Master's degree in Business Administration Finance, Accounting, Economics, Transportation, or related field
  • PMP certification
  • ProSci certification

Experience
  • Experience working with organizational change projects and initiatives
  • Experience with the transportation industry

Job Summary/Duties:

The Assistant Project Manager works closely with leaders from the Safety and Operations Departments, applying their expertise in Project Management (PM) to support the tactical planning required to implement WMATA's Safety Management S ystem (SMS) Strategic Roadmap. They will engage responsible action owners and their subject matter experts to develop and implement detailed plans of action required to accomplish key milestones used to establish a robust, industry-leading SMS. The assistant project manager supports and is accountable for developing specific action plans; integrating them into a master plan; establishing and managing the operating rhythm; tracking implementation progress against plan; measuring results with key performance indicators; problem solving facilitation; preparing intuitive status dashboards, and; reporting and presenting to senior and executive leadership on a regular basis.

This role will also support the management team's execution of corporate initiatives and requirements, such as the annual performance objectives, MetroMoves, MetroDocs and other initiatives as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works with SMS strategic milestone owners to develop the plans of action required to meet success criteria and achieve results.
  • Uses tools such as Microsoft Project to develop action plans and integrate them into an overall SMS master plan.
  • Manages a structured operating rhythm including the coordination of regular progress review meetings that establish the cadence for an SMS project to drive ownership and accountability.
  • Oversees the execution of projects to support the SMS and monitors the progress of activities to implement the SMS
  • Supports the implementation of the Quality Management System Plan (QMSP) throughout the SAFE department
  • Prepares reports on project progress as requested by departmental leadership.
  • Monitors and provides proactive status updates on SAFE's execution of mandatory business processes and initiatives, like MetroDocs, QMSP, etc.
