Job Announcement

The Nutritionist Assistant II position is located at a Fairfax County WIC site. Position provides nutrition services to women, infants, and children, including certification of eligible participants, determining nutritional risk, and prescribing appropriate food packages. Conducts dietary assessments and obtains clinical data. Provides nutrition and breastfeeding education/counseling to low-risk clients. Refers high risk clients to nutritionist. Documents all certification and nutrition activities. Duties are performed under the supervision of a Senior Public Health Nutritionist.

This position may be underfilled as a Nutritionist Assistant I; the underfill requirements are stated bellow in the Employment Standards section.

Note: This is a grant funded position. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

High school graduation or a GED issued by a department of education; plus six hours of nutrition, dietetics, community health, biology, chemistry, sociology, and/or a related coursework.; plus one year of customer service experience in community health, social services, public health environment, nutrition, and/or related field.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Competent Professional Authority (CPA) certification or other related certification.
  • Valid driver's license
  • AED - Required within 60 days
  • CPR - Required within 60 days

UNDERFILL REQUIREMENTS:
Nutritionist Assistant I, Grade S15 ($39,663.31 - $66,105.10 Annually)

High school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education plus one year of customer service experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry, a sanction screening, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. Tuberculosis test.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Preferred candidates will have a college degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field.
  • Previous WIC experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in recordkeeping and in use of Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel).
  • Position requires the candidate to be proactive, exercise good judgment, use critical thinking skills, be organized and have excellent customer service skills.
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with proficiency in Spanish as a second language.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
