Content Specialist Job Summary:

Sparks Group and a globally renowned company in McLean, VA have partnered to find a Content Specialist for a long-term contract. The Content Specialist position is a key role within the company's Global Editorial Content Team, a collection of writers, editors, and video content creators who tell must-read/must-see stories. The team is focused on inspiring media coverage, enforcing brand loyalty, and driving consumer interest and awareness by presenting out-of-the-box storytelling in print, video, and multimedia. The team works in partnership with a variety of internal partners, including brand and enterprise marketing, media relations, social media, content marketing, paid media and internal/executive communications teams.

Content Specialist Responsibilities:
  • Review, proofread and edit all in-house press releases and articles, plus content submissions from agencies and freelance writers for publishing.
  • Oversee the scheduling and production of all content via the editorial calendar and AirTable cloud collaboration service.
  • Act as a champion for AirTable among content partners, ensuring project placeholders and scheduled dates are entered and updated in a timely manner.
  • Act as an internal champion in guiding new and existing content contributors in the submission process, brand voice/tone, alternate storytelling options, and deadlines.
  • Ensure that all content adheres to AP Style and the Style Guide.
  • Compile and send a biweekly newsletter for internal partners, while also working through a renewed external email strategy.
  • Assist with a new website buildout and design, inclusive of pre-launch focus groups, coordination with an external agency partner, in testing and iterating on site navigation and features, and ultimately championing launch.
  • Troubleshoot any site issues with appropriate internal and external partners.
  • Maintain close partnerships with media relations, social media partners and external PR agency on content priorities, content calendars and amplification/distribution.
  • Contribute written content (as needed).
  • Proofread miscellaneous projects (as needed).

Content Specialist Qualifications:
  • B.A./B.S. Bachelors degree in a related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience.
  • Experience overseeing an editorial calendar.
  • Experience writing and editing within AP Style and for global audiences.
  • Experience working in a media organization or with a content-focused PR or social media agency.
  • Experience working with and giving direction to graphic designers.
  • Proficiency working within WordPress.
  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop and Canva.
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Pinterest.
  • Creative, out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to storytelling and building readership.
  • A collaborative individual who can lead with a team of content contributors of all levels of experience.
  • An individual who can demonstrate the dos and do nots of high-quality writing and content creation.
  • An individual with great partnership and relationship building skills.
  • An aptitude for staying calm and effective while handling multiple concurrent demands and prioritizing responsibilities.
