Job Details

Shady Grove Medical Center seeks to hire an experienced Certified Nursing Assistant for our Medical Surgical Oncology who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.

As a Nursing Assistant you will:
Perform various service duties and routine technical tasks such as vital signs and activities of daily living under supervision of a Registered Nurse. Specific duties may vary by area of assignment. Consideration of the special needs and behaviors of specific patient populations is required

Qualifications include:
• High School diploma or GED
• Valid Maryland CNA license required
• Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• One year of current experience in a hospital environment with strong computer skills
• Must be able to read, write, comprehend and speak clear and concise English to communicate effectively with staff visitors, patients and physicians

• Notifies Primary RN, Assistant Nurse Manager or Nurse Manager of adverse events on the unit within the shift that the event occurred

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
• Must be certified as a Nursing Assistant by the State of Maryland and be on the State of Maryland Registry
• Current Basic Life Support (Heart Saver) certificate
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations
• Ability to read, write and speak English in order to communicate effectively
• Possess knowledge of standards, policies, procedures and organizational structure of the unit, the Department of Nursing and Adventist Healthcare, Shady Grove Medical Center

Education and Experience Required:
• High School Diploma
• Successful completion of the CNA program or first year of Nursing School Program and successful completion of the CNA exam

Description of Working Conditions:
• Able to work in a temperature-controlled hospital environment with frequent exposure to auditory and olfactory stimuli.
• Potential exposure to contagious diseases.
• Potential exposure to bio -hazardous wastes and hazardous wastes
• Works in a stressful environment with multiple demands and responds appropriate
• Has knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care, has knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
• Able to respond to alarms codes, answering phone, overhead pages.
• Able to read charts, labels, documentation, policies and procedures
• Able to communicate clearly and efficiently with staff, visitors, patients, and physicians in English

Physical Requirements:
• Sitting: Documenting, supporting visitors
• Walking: Extensive walking around hospital campus, responding to emergencies and daily patient rounding
• Standing: Communicating with staff, physicians, visitors, and patients.
• Bending/squatting/kneeling: CPR, assisting with transfers, plugging in equipment
• Lifting: Transferring patients, moving equipment
• Pushing: Moving patients in wheelchairs, beds, stretchers, incubators and cribs; moving carts, and other patient care equipment

Work Schedule:

6:45 AM - 7:15 PM

3 shifts/week with 4 weekend shifts per four-week scheduling period.

Rotating holiday schedule.
