The Lourie Center School seeks to hire a Teacher's Assistant who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.

As the Teacher's Assistant, you will:
•Under the supervision of the classroom teacher provide individual and small group instruction to children
•Assist the teacher in the development and preparation of materials for classroom use
•Prepare and clean up the classroom as per the demands of the curricular task and needs of the children in the program
•Assist the teacher in the formulation and implementation of psycho-therapeutic and behavior management strategies for the children in the program
•Conduct Functional Behavior Assessment on all classroom children and develop a Behavior Intervention Plan
•Assist the classroom teacher in developing Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plans
•Read the child's reports and Individualized Education Program (IEP)
•Be available to any crisis that may occur in and out of the classroom
•Be available to restrain a child in the child control position
•Record observational data on student behavior with the teacher's and interdisciplinary team's input
•Participate in the school's interdisciplinary team meetings and selected Lourie Center staff meetings
•Continue professional education in special education or a related discipline by attending internal or external workshops, conferences, and/or coursework at the university level
•Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher and Directors
•Assume the role and responsibility of the teacher, in the teacher's absence, as discussed in advance

Qualifications Include:
•Bachelor's degree in education, psychology or related discipline
•Basic knowledge of child development issues is required
•Minimum of one year work experience with special needs children (i.e. school, camp, counselor, child care work, college practicum experiences, etc)
•Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
