Position Title Director Compensation and HR Operations Job Category Administrator Office/Department Human Resources Location York Rd Staff Job Type If Temporary or Visiting, Estimated End Date: Position Summary and Duties The Director Compensation and HR Operations is responsible for the overall management, design, communication, administration, and compliance of the University's staff and administrator compensation plan. This Director will oversee the HRIS unit to ensure operating efficiencies, data integrity and support of management reporting. The position reports to the Associate Vice President of Human Resources. Essential job duties include: * Develop, evaluate and maintain the university's staff and administrator compensation policies and programs, balancing industry best practices with regulatory issues and university goals. Ensure programs are equitable and support the university's compensation philosophy and goals. * Maintain the staff and administrator job description and job evaluation process, classification and position control systems and compensation software. Oversee the market pricing of jobs. Evaluate and maintain salary structures and ranges to reflect market pay. Train HR partners on use of compensation system tools to ensure appropriate market pricing of jobs. * Evaluate salary equity and present annual and ad hoc presentations and updates to various governance groups as required. Analyze salary models and monitor employee pay to market ratios, making recommendations as appropriate. * Responsible for compensation and HR operations vendor management; and collaborate with others to ensure effective compensation and HR operations deliverables. * Plan and implement the performance evaluation and annual merit processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and meaningful performance management. * Design and implement pay notices and employee communications regarding compensation updates. Update policies, procedures and guidelines related to compensation programs. * Complete university pay and position budget reports as needed, and supervise salary survey and reporting. Oversee and assist with updates to budget and vacancy reports. * Manage survey participation, and assist the accounting department with the annual Form 990. * Provide planning, guidance, supervision, support and coaching to compensation and HRIS staff, ensuring that department and unit goals are met. Serve on the HR leadership team, university compensation and benefits committee, and technology committees. * Supervise the HRIS unit, ensuring effective, accurate and timely data entry and reporting on pay, benefits, and employee data; ensure electronic record-keeping is up-to-date and in line with applicable regulations. Provide guidance to ensure HR department operational needs are met. Supervise the unit of student employment onboarding processing and various special projects. Oversee HRIS staff in development and delivery of HRIS queries and reports. * Provide guidance and oversight to HRIS staff on projects to improve or maintain automated operational solutions such as file imaging, on-line applicant tracking, onboarding systems, self-service, position control, leave reporting, and other projects. * Foster strong partnerships with all HR units and other university departments, ensuring excellent communication, collaboration and service. Liaison to the payroll department, and work with the technical services department to assist with HRIS issues as needed. * Work with HR staff to ensure effective use of compensation systems and other HR technology and operational workflows. Implement procedures for efficiencies in department operations. * Keep abreast of compensation trends, technology needs, and federal/state regulations, ensuring that compensation programs and HR systems meet current and future university needs. Identify and communicate emerging issues related to compensation and operational practices; recommend and lead innovative solutions. Required Qualifications . Bachelor's degree and 5 to 8 years of related experience * Demonstrated knowledge and experience with total compensation theory, job classification principles and job evaluation methodology; and of FLSA , and state and federal regulations impacting compensation administration. * Leadership skills, with ability to effectively supervisor individuals in high volume work involving accuracy, productivity, confidentiality, security and adherence to deadlines. Must be able to transfer knowledge and foster accountability. * Excellent collaboration, project management, time management and negotiation skills with ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Good organizational skills with attention to detail required * Superior skill in communicating effectively with all levels of employees verbally and written. Excellent presentation skills, with ability to influence and persuade others. Ability to write and communicate clear, concise, logical, presentations and analytical reports. * Skill and knowledge in the collection, analysis and determination of market salary and total compensation data, and to apply it to relative institutional analysis. * Strong math and analytical skills. Skill in computing rates, ratios, and percentages in gathering data and applying salary analysis. Proficiency with MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint with advanced knowledge of worksheets including pivot tables and v-lookup. * Experience using HRIS systems, and general knowledge of other HR applications. * Excellent problem solving skills with confidence to solve problems effectively. Ability to develop and implement action plans to address unique and unusual issues. * Team player, with a passion for customer service excellence. Self-starter with strong initiative, and judgment to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately. * Must be able to support the core values of a Jesuit, Catholic comprehensive university, including promotion of diversity and cultivating the whole person to succeed in a diverse and changing world. Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree. * Experience in a higher education environment strongly preferred. * CCP and/or PHR certification preferred. * General knowledge and experience in other HR functional areas would be helpful toward improving operational efficiencies in support of all HR units.
