Job DescriptionRole OverviewWe are seeking a strategic compensation professional to lead Inova's system-wide compensation function. The Director of Compensation will be responsible for advancing our compensation transformation journey through elevating programs, protocols and the compensation consultant-client dynamic. Leading a team of five and leveraging external consultants, the Director must be a strong, collaborative manager with a passion for team management and development. This position reports to the Vice President, Human Resources.This role will be based in the Inova System Office in Falls Church, VA. This opportunity is telework/remote work eligible.Responsibilities and Duties Administration, Design and Planning:Ensure Inovas compensation philosophy for base and variable pay is market competitive and fiscally responsibleAligns compensation and reward strategies, programs to meet the needs of Inovas different constituencies in support of achieving Inovas missionResponsible for daily operation of Inova Health System Compensation function, continually seeking operational excellence and efficient administration Develops appropriate metrics and tracking mechanisms to measure results, satisfaction and cost effectiveness of all programs; Makes sure they achieve the desired resultsCollaborates cross-functionally in developing, implementing, training, and communicating compensation programs, including pay for performance, ensuring alignment to Inovas mission and strategic prioritiesThrough analysis, planning, understanding trends and by treating problems, not symptoms, resolve issues before they affect business operations (ie, recruitment, retention, and team member engagement)Leads team of compensation staff who work with functional and Inova facility management and HR staff to design, implement and administer compensation plans that incorporate financial goals while recognizing Inova facility and demographic needsReviews existing and proposed statutory requirements and policies governing compensation administration and recommends appropriate course of action needed to remain compliantConsulting:Build relationships as a strong Center of Excellence compensation function within HREnsures compensation projects and initiatives are in alignment with Inovas People Strategy and system-wide strategic prioritiesEducate, train and empower leaders to be part of compensation decisions Model Service Excellence by communications, relationships, and follow-through and regularly assess customer satisfaction with compensation functionProactively identify, understand and resolve compensation related issues before they are significant problems, by building open and strong relationships cross-functionallyProvides counsel to management and HR colleagues on compensation program policy interpretation issuesTeam Management:Models Inovas values and behaviors in managing self as well as leading othersMentors, leads, and directs the work of the compensation team members to design, implement and administer compensation plans in keeping with Inovas compensation philosophy and talent strategyProven ability to toggle between strategy and day-to-day operations while leveraging the capacity and capability of the teamEstablishes, reviews, and revises performance standards for team members, interacting appropriately to set goals, communicate expectations, and provide regular coaching conversationDetermine education or training needs of team to fulfill compensation function servicesEnsure roles and responsibilities are clear for internal team members as well as external consultants, contractors RequirementsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting, or related fieldMinimum 10+ years of progressive compensation or related experiencePrior experience leading compensation function highly preferredHealthcare experience highly preferredCertification in compensation is highly desiredExperience and SkillsSuccessful experience leading and sustaining compensation center of excellence model within a large, complex matrixed business environmentProven track record of building strong teams and developing staffDemonstrates proficiency in resolving compensation (value proposition and alignment) issues and in influencing desired organization-wide cultural change Must be able to function effectively in ambiguous conditions, recognize trends, and identify systematic approaches to solving problems in a fast-moving, constantly changing environmentExceptional leadership qualifies, a strategic thinker with an orientation for action and results, creative, responsible, and able to plan and execute effectivelyExperience with program development and administrationAbility to work collaboratively across the organization Ability to negotiate and gain acceptance of othersPossesses excellent written and oral communication skills; Ability to modulate and communicate to leaders and team members at all levels across the organizationStrong analytical skills and financial modeling Proficiency in technology as an enabler of compensation administrationWork Site LocationCAMBRIDGE COURT Work Site Address8110 GATEHOUSE ROADWork Site City/StateFALLS CHURCH, VAScheduleMonday-Friday ShiftDay/Evening EEO TaglineM/F/Vets/Disabled Job ID: 59603BRDepartment: HR BENEFITS-COMPENSATION Schedule Type: full time
