OVERVIEW Tutors have the primary responsibility to accelerate learning to meet or exceed grade level standards and provide instructional support through high dosage tutoring. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Reporting directly to the school principal or lead administrator, the tutor performs the following duties: * Provide for instructional needs and interests of students with the aid of appropriate and effective lesson planning. * Create an environment that is conducive to learning and where tutoring time is utilized effectively. * Demonstrate the use of a variety of teaching techniques and the use of a variety of instructional resources and materials to implement curriculum. * Use evaluation effectively to promote student growth and development intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally. * Demonstrate fair, firm, and consistent behavior towards students and promote self-discipline among students. * Demonstrate effective communication skills and positive interpersonal relations with students, parents, staff, and community. * Assist administration and other staff members in reaching the mission for the school by applying ethical standards in professional relationships. * Strive to maintain and improve professional competencies. * Supervise students in a variety of school settings. * Maintain appropriate records. * Meet virtually with students who are in quarantine to provide tutoring services, as requested by administrators. * Meet in-person with students before or after school to provide tutoring services, as requested by administrators. * Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. * Regular and predictable attendance. * Supply documentation to the Central Office Grant Coordinator as requested. * Be prepared to support an in-person, virtual or hybrid program, as determined by FCPS leadership. * Supervise the transition of students as directed by the Lead Administrator. * Performs other duties as assigned by the lead administrator. * Regular and predictable availability for assignment. Performs other duties as assigned by the school principal or lead administrator. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education/Training/Experience: * High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Minimum of 48 college credits, AA degree or passing of the ParaPro Assessment Test will be required for Title One Schools. * Knowledge of core academic subjects * Ability to build and establish rapport with students * Ability to use educational software and other learning tools * Reliability and flexibility when scheduling sessions to meet student needs Certifications/Licenses: * None Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: * Knowledge and use of culturally responsive practices. * Demonstrated outstanding written and oral communication skills. * Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Physical Requirements: * Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone and in addressing groups. * Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. * Ability to spend long hours sitting. * Ability to reach with hands and arms. * Sufficient manual dexterity to grasp, handle, manipulate, and/or feel objects and use office technology. * Sufficient mobility to move about the work area. * Sufficient vision to read and comprehend printed materials, see distant objects with clarity, and identify and distinguish objects. * Sufficient hearing to hear and comprehend conversations in person and on the telephone, as well as distinguish sounds up to twenty (20) feet. * Occasionally climb or balance. * Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. * Occasionally lift fifteen (15) pounds. Work Environment: * Regularly working with moderate noise (examples: office environment with computers, printers, and telephones; regular conversations within offices, cubicles, hallways, and conference rooms; meetings one-on-one, in small groups, and large settings, etc.). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, Experience: * Possess a Bachelor's/Master's Degree Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Certifications/Licenses: * None. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: * Possess MSDE issued professional teacher certificate with the appropriate content endorsement. * Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs. * Knowledge of test preparation and successful study methods * Experience working with students in a learning environment * Experience preparing lessons and/or personalized instruction * Bilingual Hours: * Various, based on student need Salary: * Salary $34.59 / hour (with Bachelor degree) or $17.00 / hour (non-Bachelor degree) FREDERICK COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.
