* DutiesHelpDutiesSummaryThis position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the formulation of Joint Staff (JS) positions and in the preparation of Congressional testimony and reports by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), Vice Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff (VCJCS) and other senior members of the JS regarding the strategic environment, strategic net assessments, scenario development, defense policy, and risk.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesAs a STRATEGIC ANALYST at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:* Utilizes strategic and systems analysis in order to assess the National Military Strategy, the Joint Strategic Campaign Plan and associated joint planning and guidance documents.* Develops, staffs, promulgates, and analyzes the Annual Joint Assessment (AJA) or new document, to support state Campaign Plan objectives and execute Contingency Plans and associated risks.* Facilitates global planning and coordination, formulating recommendations for the methodology used by the Services, Combatant Commands, and Joint Staff.* Prepares CJCS, VCJCS, Director J-5 or DDJSP for participation in Congressional hearings or other similar public forums.* Conducts analysis of CJCS instructions, manuals and other directives governing JS processes, how they align within the Joint Strategic Planning System (JSPS), and how they link with corresponding OSD processes.Travel RequiredOccasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.Supervisory statusNoPromotion Potential14* Job family (Series)0301 Miscellaneous Administration And Program* RequirementsHelpRequirementsConditions of Employment* Must be a US citizen* Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service* Resume and supporting documents (See How To Apply)* Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation* May be required to successfully complete a probationary period* Work Schedule: Full Time* Overtime: Occasionally* Tour of Duty: Flexible* Recruitment Incentives: May be Authorized* Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt* Financial Disclosure: Not Required* Telework Eligibility: This position is telework eligible-Yes, as determined by agency policy* Drug Testing Designated Position: Yes* Employee must obtain/maintain a Special Sensitive (Top Secret/SCI) security clearanceQualificationsYou may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:* Creates strategic and military risk assessments, including the development of assessment methodology, definitions, and criteria, and how they are applied across Joint Staff processes.* Provide guidance and recommendations in national security, defense policy, and military strategy issues, in order to provide authoritative assistance to senior military leaders on strategic policy issues impacting the Nation and the Department's contribution to national security.* Utilizes legislative processes and CJCS statutory reporting requirements on military strategy and risk assessment, including Congressional intent on how strategy should determine Department resources and Joint Force capabilities and capacity.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (eg, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (eg, professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
