Our Frederick client seeks an Accounting ManagerReporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting and financial operations and ensuring reports are timely and accurate. The Accounting Manager interacts with staff and volunteers across the organization and supervises one Finance Department employee. Priorities and Key Responsibilities Specific duties include the following:Accounting OperationsManage daily accounting operations.Perform a monthly accounting close that ensures the recording of all entries in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); ensure sub-ledgers tie to the general ledger; prepare journal entries and review journal entries prepared by other staff;Perform account analyses; work with staff to ensure accurate entry and timely payment of accounts payable; ensure the use of Positive Pay fraud prevention system and other automated banking controls; prepare payroll and retirement journals as directed; ensure prepaid expenses, accruals, depreciation and all other miscellaneous entries are booked in the monthly close. Review and post sub-ledger activity (AR/AP) prepared by staff; including vendor invoice coding review and approval, expense report review and related coding approvalReview aging reports and ensure a match to the ledgers; ensure collectability; establish and guide the process for payment follow upEnsure wire transfers and foreign currency transactions are booked appropriately and timely; serve as backup to CFO for performing transfers or releasing fundsOversee 1099 process and assist with the preparation of any related annual activities (eg workers compensation audit)Reconcile key accounts on a monthly basis, including operating cash for CFO review; account for investment related transactions monthlyServe as lead/expert within the accounting software for budget and other financial report creation, control implementation, close functionality and permissions, trouble shoot sub-ledger variances; work with CFO to establish a permission based environment Financial StatementsPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, for CFO review and ultimately the Chief Executive Officer, Audit and Finance Committee, and/or Board of Directors.Work with CFO to prepare and monitor cash-flow forecasting statements.In collaboration with the CFO and Chief Executive Officer to develop the organization's annual budgetRegularly monitor budget projections and provide regular updates, including variance explanations, to the CFO, and ultimately, Chief Executive Officer, Audit & Finance Committee, and the Board.Work with CFO to complete financial analyses, develop future finance models/forecasts, and respond professionally and thoughtfully to requests for information from the CFO, Chief Executive Officer, Board Treasurer, and senior staff.Prepare for and support the annual audit process. Policies & ProceduresMaintain a business calendar and ensure execution of non-financial based annual filings and other business-related matters (business insurance renewals, Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation filings, recurring business based off-cycle payments, regulatory filing or letter requests)Obtain US Tax Exemption Certificate and complete Form 10-F as well as the No Permanent Establishment Statement and promptly provide to relevant programs to ensure timely payments of annual fees.Manage and update where necessary, the organization's reimbursement form; ensure the Travel Expense and Reimbursement Policy is followed.Ensure accounting policies and procedures are followed, and that accounting principles are maintained.Experience and AttributesHighly qualified candidates will bring a shared commitment to their mission and programs and value for proactively advancing infrastructure systems that support the organization's work. Other experience and attributes include the following:B.A. or BS in Accounting, Business, or Finance.CPA or MBA preferred10+ years' progressive experience in a corporate accounting department; working knowledge of nonprofit accounting and international accounting experience preferred; experience with a membership organization preferred.Supervisory experience with proven ability to successfully manage others.Track record of successful experience in efficient, accurate and timely closings and production of financial statements targeted to specific audiences within management.Detail-oriented, ability to multi-task accurately within required deadlines.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Excellent organizational, problem solving, and decision-making skills; ability to prioritize department's workload and respond to unique and evolving international requirements.Ability to provide excellent internal and external customer service.Working knowledge of and ability to comply with GAAP and other applicable regulations, so that annual audit reports contain no significant or material findings.Experience with computerized financial systems; prior experience with Intacct preferred.Experience with major payroll software; Paychex software preferred.Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 with advanced Excel experience.
