As an In-Charge Tax Accountant, you will be involved in all areas of client service from tax research to tax preparation and review. You will supervise staff accountants on engagements both in the office and on-site at client location, occasionally managing communication with client on-site and developing client relationships. You may be responsible for several engagements at any given time. This role offers opportunity for advancement and a defined path to leadership. Prepare federal and state tax returns involving complex issues and with a concentrated focus on pass-through entitiesPrepare federal and state tax returns for high net-worth individualsReview less complex individual and business tax returnsPrepare tax projections for year-end tax planning and quarterly estimated taxesDraft responses to tax noticesHandle multiple tasks and manage your schedule to meet internal and external deadlinesUse resources to research tax issues and increase technical knowledgeAssist in training less experienced staff Here are a few competency expectations for this position:TaxPrepare higher level individual, corporate and/or other types of tax returnsPerform preliminary research on tax-related issuesRespond to tax noticesParticipate in tax planningDeepen knowledge of federal, state and local laws GeneralPass the CPA exam at the conclusion of this position and before being promoted to senior tax accountantDemonstrate knowledge of client's accounting system and industryDetect problems and offer solutions to client issuesProvide training and assistance to staff accountants QualificationsBA or BS in Accounting or related field required3+ years of tax experience in a public accounting firmCPA or CPA candidate requiredKnowledge of accounting and tax software (CCH Axcess Suite and Quickbooks experience, preferred)Professional demeanor toward duties and responsibilities, particularly with regard to independence, professional ethics, and the exercise of professional judgment requiredHighly motivated with the desire to grow and developInterest in building collaborative relationships, striving to find the best possible solutionsAbility to travel, as needed for client engagements (mostly local)Legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorshipAt Lanigan Ryan, we believe that a good training program is key to the ongoing success of our people.
