The Integrated Network Technician AA Position primarily focuses on the maintenance and compliance of the MetroNet data network, the Avaya voice systems, and the emergency communication systems throughout the Authority. This is a skilled technical position to support WMATA's information technology systems, troubleshooting, testing, installing, diagnosing, and maintaining real-time 24/7/365 to support mission-critical services such as MetroNet, Voice, ETS, Area of Rescue and Garage Emergency telephone system.

Education


  • Graduation from High School or High School equivalent

Experience


  • A minimum of 12 years of general technical experience in the telecommunication industry managing data and /or voice systems and network infrastructure experience (cable / jacks/ patch panels/ racks/ UPS). Telecommunication experience in a large scale business enterprise environment is required.

Certification/Licensure
  • Certifications in enterprise networking electronics and systems (voice and/or data) are required.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of an IT/NCS Network Operations Shift Supervisor, the Integrated Network Technician (INT) position is responsible for the daily (24x7x365) maintenance and management of the WMATA voice and data network hardware and all cabling (fiber, coax, copper) infrastructure throughout the WMATA enterprise network. These networks include the legacy CTS data network, the legacy BDN data network, the legacy phone network(s) and the planned integrated communication METRO-Net network. This position works closely with the OIT-NCS leadership team, IT Help Desk and IT Operations Center, the ROCC's, TSSM and other WMATA business units, to ensure that all of the WMATA networks and communication systems are operating in a robust, reliable and secure manner on a 24x7x35 basis.

The INT AA incumbent will perform daily analysis of telecommunications needs (ACD, PBX, VRU) of WMATA and contribute to design of telecommunications systems integration and installation, including planning for changes in system use. The INT AA incumbent installs and maintains telecommunications hardware and software, including network nodes, terminals, and wiring. The INT AA incumbent monitors and maintains telecommunications network stability. Under the general supervision of the OIT/NCS leadership team, the INT AA incumbent coordinates and facilitates third-party maintenance for telecommunications systems and service, and prepares and maintains documentation of telecommunications configurations and cabling layouts.

Essential Functions :
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of all Authority-owned fiber optic backbone cableinfrastructure and all other intra/inter-building cable media (copper, coax, fiber).
  • Maintenance and repair of all legacy and future telephone systems owned or leased byWMATA. This includes but is not limited to: Rolm 8000, 9000, and 9751s PBXs and NEC 2400 PBXs Authority wide.
  • Maintenance and repair of leased Merlin Magix telephone systems;
  • Maintenance of Garage Emergency Telephone System remote reporting equipment; Maintenance and repair of all telephone conferencing systems in JGB.
  • Maintenance and repair of all telephone instruments associated with above telephone systems and all future telephone systems.
  • Maintenance and repair of Carrier Transmission System/Fiber Optic System (CTS/FOS)across the entire WMATA network. Working with the OIT/NCS Network Engineers, the INT will install and interconnect enterprise-class Cisco network electronics
  • Maintenance and repair of all audio/visual equipment supporting JGB Board and MeetingRooms
  • Maintenance and repair of all public address systems supporting the JGB Board andMeeting Rooms
  • Provide on-site support during all Board and Board Committee meetings.
  • Responsible for portable public address system for public relations events, media events, public hearings, etc.
  • Responsible for the Authority's facsimile machine procurement, replacement and repair.
  • Responsible for Detail Call Recording System, long distance access codes and publishing monthly long distance toll call billings.
  • Maintenance and repair of audio recorder equipment in JGB and CTF
  • Responsible for all Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) telephone support.
  • Installs, monitors, maintains and facilitates PSTN voice and data network services from carriers like Verizon and Sprint (trunks, tielines, analog and digital circuits etc...)
  • Performs related duties as required.
