Responsibilities

  • In this position you will serve as a Supervisory Police Officer at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.
  • Responsible for the operational status of all police officers assigned to the shift who are involved in law enforcement, traffic control, conservation law enforcement, investigations, training, tactical operations, and patrol activities.
  • Ensuring that assigned personnel properly execute law enforcement duties for the installation.
  • Performing law enforcement duties in an area of exclusive federal jurisdiction.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance, and enforcement of a full range of Federal, State, local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as they pertain to law enforcement work, and the supervision of others engaged in such duties.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • Firearms testing and successful qualification to Army published standards are required on a semi-annual basis. This may include firing at night, with one hand, or while under time constraints or physical stress.
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply. Employee and prospective employee of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct.
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Incumbent must have successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Must be able to act as a first responder to critical incidents, including but not limited to: criminal acts, natural disasters, lost or missing persons, mass casualties, and/or acts of terror or mass destruction.
  • A medical screening/examination is required in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56, Appendices B and C.
  • This position requires the incumbent to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
  • Position requires routine and emergency daily duties while wearing a uniform and/or protective clothing.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience is defined as one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service which includes (1) Performing law enforcement duties, such as prevention of and response to emergency situations; (2) Enforcing a wide range of law enforcement/security laws, traffic codes, regulations, directives, and procedures; and (3) Leading or supervising employees in the area of security or law enforcement.

For this position education is not permitted to be substituted for the lack of specialized experience.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
