Duties

Summary

Serve as an Engineering Technician in the Systems Integration and Test Branch, Engineering Directorate, Langley Research Center (LaRC) responsible for vibration workmanship, acceptance, and qualification-level testing on mission critical aerospace flight hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Responsible for operating and maintaining vibration test systems, mass properties measurement systems, modal test equipment, general vibration test instrumentation and sensors in the Vibration Test Laboratory.
  • Participates in the development of test plans, test and process procedures, and the documentation of test results.
  • Work with other technicians, engineers, and managers to resolve anomalies and recommend changes in test design, equipment design, techniques, or methods.
  • Provides technical expertise in the surveillance, design, evaluation, and implementation of environmental testing at other Langley and remote facilities.
  • Troubleshoots, adjusts, modifies, and improves test systems and instrumentation to provide support that minimizes interruptions in the ability to carry out critical testing and integration functions within the Branch.
  • Specification, procurement, receipt, and installation of specialized test and support equipment required for test operations.
  • Perform precision prototype machining, to support the assembly, and integration of aerospace flight systems.
  • Metrology point of contact for the Laboratory. Ensures compliance with LAPD-8730.1, Langley Metrology Program. Responsible for logistics and the resolution of MTE discrepancies pertaining to the calibration of test equipment in the Laboratory.
  • Provide mentoring to junior technicians in laboratory operations.
  • Property custodian of the government owned equipment within the Laboratory.

Qualifications

To qualify for GS-10, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service that includes assisting with conducting operations of aerospace technical facilities to include lifting and logistics operations; spacecraft assembly, integration, and test; high pressure system operations; and clean room operations and maintenance.

To qualify for GS-11, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level in the Federal service that includes conducting operations of aerospace technical facilities to include lifting and logistics operations; spacecraft assembly, integration, and test; high pressure system operations; and clean room operations and maintenance.

To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that includes managing and conducting operations of aerospace technical facilities to include lifting and logistics operations; spacecraft assembly, integration, and test; high pressure system operations; and clean room operations and maintenance.
