Job Description Summary:The National Academy of Sciences is looking for an experienced Content Marketing Manager for the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) portfolio journals (PNAS and PNAS Nexus). If you love creating high-quality and engaging content and to drive business success with it, we want you on our team! Responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating internal and external content strategy (except news media), and for developing and implementing marketing, social media, and content strategies and plans, led by analytics and market trends. Strong emphasis on writing and producing a variety of materials. Works with the staff teams and the Editorial Boards that handle and recruit journal articles, the staff who write content for the journal Front Matter, and the PNAS Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, to build out a content marketing program for the journal portfolio, and to create equitable programs that foster deeper relationships between potential authors and readers and the PNAS brand. Strategizes with staff and other key stakeholders to develop and maintain new marketing and content channels, such as webinars, email content, blogs, video channels, etc. Develops metrics and identifies KPIs to track marketing and content program success. Explores and develops new ways to communicate activities and to disseminate information. Manages vendor relations. Supervises staff.Responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating internal and external content marketing (except news media), and for managing the marketing, social media, and associated outreach and/or affiliate activities of the unit. Develops and implements marketing and content strategies and plans. Activities may include advertising, promotions, community outreach, and affiliate services. Identifies and analyzes potential market opportunities. Manages vendor relations. Supervises staff.Primary duty is directly related to the management of assigned business operations. Applies in-depth professional level knowledge to independently solve a full range of complex problems. Assignments are broadly defined and require judgment and creativity to complete. Working under minimal supervision and with guidance in only the most complex situations, incumbent has authority to take whatever action deemed advisable or necessary, but is required to advise superiors. Incumbent supervises staff, is accountable for the performance and results of the team, and establishes processes and procedures to ensure the effective and efficient operation of assigned functions.Job Description:ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:1. Establishes a vision and working strategy for content marketing. Creates, develops, coordinates, and implements strategies for products, publications, and/or services. Develops and manages annual marketing calendars for PNAS and PNAS Nexus.2. Builds out a content marketing program for the journal portfolio, and/or creates programs that foster deeper relationships between potential authors and the PNAS brand. Develops and maintains new marketing and content channels, such as webinars, email content, blogs, video channels, etc.3. Develops metrics and identifies KPIs to track marketing content program success.4. Identifies and analyzes potential market/content opportunities, combining internal analysis with input from collaboration with sales representatives, distributors, customers, vendors, associations, etc. Sets marketing goals and designs campaigns and programs to reach them. Develops, strategizes placement for, and implements marketing/promotional and sales materials such as advertising, brochures, inserts, and direct mail. Creates, distributes, and tracks effectiveness of materials. 5. Strategizes with staff and other appropriate parties to develop and expand the reach of projects. Explores and develops new ways to communicate activities and to disseminate information. Independently writes a variety of materials. 6. Supervises assigned staff. Plans and assigns personnel including freelancers for given projects or tasks. Provides leadership and mentors employees. Trains and develops employees to successfully perform current responsibilities and encourages development of staff for future roles. Forms effective teams and cultivates a work environment that fosters teamwork. Interprets and ensures consistent application of organizational policies. Initiates personnel actions, including performance and compensation reviews and disciplinary actions.7. Develops and manages day-to-day relationships with consultants, vendors, customers, and associations. Ensures adherence to contractual obligations. Evaluates activities of representatives and/or vendors to determine their effectiveness.8. Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with department policies and procedures. 9. Manages the marketing/content budget. Monitors expenses, analyzes revenue sources, and ensures budget parameters are met. Reviews and approves expenses.10. Maintains an appropriate standard of confidentiality. When handling secure, privileged, sensitive, or confidential information and matters, maintains strict confidence and exercises care to prevent disclosure to others. Accesses confidential information for work-related reasons only, following the policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures that any privileged, sensitive, or confidential information is securely stored, disposed of, and transmitted according to the Institutional guidance. Ensures procedures are in place to maintain and protect confidentiality and to prevent disclosure. Trains and updates staff/team members on these issues periodically. Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees. Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Marketing or Communications or related field, or equivalent knowledge.Minimum Experience: Six years of related professional experience, two of which were in a supervisory capacity.Physical Capabilities: Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: None.Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Reports to Director. General direction is provided.
