We strive to provide our clients with professional and timely services with sustainable practices integrated into our operations.The Electrical Engineer has two primary functions one as a technical liaison to the Energy Project and the other as an expert resource to Planning & Facilities Management for electrical engineering. They ensure proper management and oversight of the facilities and utilities systems and relevant partnerships for reliable and cost-effective equipment operation and code compliance. They manage operation electrical and utilities projects and programs that have complex features, from the concept stage through the development of construction documents or program implementation; develop engineering solutions and implements necessary programs for corrective action and code compliance; and performs special project activities requiring application of technical expertise to the development of solutions to unusually difficult problems as assigned.Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Utilities for assignments, work direction, and administrative supervision, the Electrical Engineer interacts regularly with a wide range of departmental and university-wide managers and staff, consultants, vendors, and government officials; and serves as a prime liaison with the Energy Partnership for coordination, execution, and planning of defined tasks within the agreement. Duties include but are not limited to:Project Engineering and Management+ Obtain and assist in the solicitation of project approvals from internal University entities, appropriate government agencies, and community interest groups+ Develop and ensure adherence to project budgets, schedules, quality standards, and code requirements+ Conduct or solicit on-site inspections of all aspects of assigned projects to evaluate consultant and contractor performance and confirm satisfactory progression of work+ Accept, modify, or reject completed A/E and contractor work and evaluate overall performance+ Guide and evaluate contractor efforts and assesses technical progress in relation to the established schedule and resources allotted+ Report progress and/or problems and where deficiencies are noted, direct necessary changes, resolve controversial problems, assure conformance to plans and specifications, and furnish other assistance as required+ Provide direction and coordination of project teams comprised of clients, consultant architects and engineers, code officials, construction managers, contractors, O personnel, contracting specialists, and fellow project managers.Energy Partnership Technical Liasion+ Evaluate and make recommendations on the aspects of Energy Partnership, to include Operations Plan, Capital Plan, Project Economics, Project Execution, System Architecture and Design, and Outage Management+ Represent University interests and long-term plans in interactions and management of energy partnership+ Assess and qualify partnership performance against key performance indicators+ Provide and analyze load forecasting and energy consumption trending for budgeting and infrastructure planning, including new building and renovation projects+ Champion methods and projects to reduce energy demand, and improve operational effectiveness in campus buildings and the Central Plant+ Complete measurement and verification of Energy Partnership EUI reduction projectsInvestigation, Resolution, and Oversight+ Perform investigations and identify equipment and operational deficiencies+ Keep current with technology updates through research and training + Provide technical interface with engineering consultants, contractors, and in-house trades staff regarding preventive maintenance and operational initiatives+ Resolve problems involving the application of CADD proficiency relating to development of facilities planning studies, problem solving, and manipulation of data base information for development of reports, as well as verbal and written presentations+ Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for electrical equipment operations and maintenance+ Provide contractor oversight for electrical work+ Provide technical guidance in the form of policy decisions where procedures, regulations, and other contractor interfaces are involved+ Provide support to a physical plant valued in excess of $1 billion and a direct impact on the facilities management annual operating budget in excess of $20 million, and capital budget for small projects in excess of $2 million annually+ Performs duties having significant impact on the safety and comfort of the more than 20,000 GU faculty, staff, and student populationQualifications+ Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or similar engineering discipline from an accredited program+ 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience as an electrical engineer managing or consulting on preventive maintenance activities, operational programs, and facilities improvement projects in a campus setting+ Competent in general office computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite+ Computer literate with specific knowledge of CADD and MS Project or other software for example, SmartsheetPreferred qualifications+ State registration as an Engineer or Engineer-in-Training+ Either LEED accreditation or certification from the Association of Energy EngineersThe Electrical Engineer is required to carry a smartphone and respond to inquiries as needed - including off-hours if emergencies arise.Duties often require walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling and lifting. During field surveys and site visits, the staff member may have to walk over or about rough terrain or construction, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend or crawl to inspect or observe situations.
