Job Announcement

Provides support to the Sheriff’s Office deputies and civilians on a wide range of human resources activities including recruitment, payroll, benefits, diversity, employee relations/performance management, ADA, FMLA, and Worker's Compensation. Participates and supports the Chief of HR in strategic planning efforts and initiatives related to work force planning, succession planning, organizational development, and special program coordination. Analyzes human resources business processes and makes recommendations for improvement. Provides interpretation and guidance on county policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local laws to employees and management. Drafts policies and/or procedures to facilitate the implementation of HR policy at the agency level. Advises employees and management on employee relations and/or performance management issues. Develops and delivers training related to HR issues. Administers the agency's performance management program. Serves on a variety of teams and works on special projects as assigned. Works u nder the direction of the Chief of Human Resources and with minimal supervision.

Schedule- Standard Monday-Friday .

  • Provides managers with guidance on employment, employee relations and other HR issues;
  • Makes recommendations and revisions to departmental HR policies & procedures;
  • Gathers, tracks and analyzes HR metrics, reports, and plans;
  • Manages on-boarding, exit interviews, and other HR-related departmental programs;
  • May supervise clerical and/or paraprofessional personnel in HR-related matters.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of human resources administration and management principles and practices;
  • Ability to perform a variety of increasingly complex work in human resources;
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software to prepare documents and store, manipulate, analyze and present information;
  • Ability to train and supervise staff.

Employment Standards

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree in human resource management, public administration, or a related field; plus two years of professional-level human resources experience.

  1. At least two years of experience using human resource-related systems (e.g. FOCUS-HCM, NeoGov, PEAQ, CareMC, and JDMS).
  2. At least two years of professional HR experience in employee relations and performance management.
  3. At least two years of experience coordinating HR compliance and reporting requirements pertaining to Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
  4. At least two years of professional HR experience in recruitment and selection.
  5. At least one year of experience in position classification and workforce planning.
  6. At least one year of experience in workers' compensation and accident reporting.
  7. Demonstrated ability to write professional correspondence to employees and managers.
  8. Demonstrated experience interpreting and providing HR policy guidance to employees and managers.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, polygraph exam, and psychological exam to the satisfaction of the employer.

Ability to work effectively under stress and meet deadlines in a timely manner. Ability to communicate clearly & concisely, both oral and written. Work requires the ability to operate keyboard driven equipment, to operate devices with tablet technologies, and to sit for long periods of time. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
