Unpaid internships with DFC are offered year round in Washington, D.C., and can last from 12 weeks to 12 months. Duties vary based on the department and/or office in which the intern is placed. DFC's Internship Program offers valuable experience that contributes to educational and professional growth, and may be applied in any future employment endeavor, including federal, state and local governments or in the private sector.

Responsibilities

The Risk Management (RM) Division is responsible for developing and establishing portfolio risk measurement and management methodologies, providing the agency with an overall risk tolerance framework. RM advises management on the establishment of guidance limits with respect to exposure concentration and reports on the overall risk profile of the portfolio to the Board Risk and Audit Committees and Senior Management.

Interns assist in: establishing global risk measurement and management methodologies with respect to regional, country, sector and customer concentrations; evaluating portfolio risk and historical performance; enhancing risk database design and analytical reviews; and other risk management tasks. Interns will be exposed to the transactions in all of the DFC's product lines.

  • Must be currently enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment (at least part-time) in an accredited college or university
  • Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation
  • Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt


Qualifications

Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled at least part-time in an accredited college or university seeking an advanced (graduate level or equivalent) degree in International Affairs/Development, Finance, Statistics or Accounting.
