DescriptionThe Engineer is responsible for electrical, mechanical, and site plan design and review. Individual must have an in-depth understanding of electrical and mechanical systems and how they relate to datacenter redundancy and operation. The Engineer must coordinate with Data Center Operations personnel to ensure all equipment installs, which require engineering review, are verified and meet CoreSite build standards.DutiesEvaluate the efficiency, reliability, and engineering design of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire and life-safety, and building management systems for expansion and upgrade projectsEvaluate new products for efficiency, reliability, and total cost of operationDetermine testing/commissioning scope to ensure design intent and operability of systems supporting the data centersProvide end of construction sign-off for quality assurance of engineered systemsWork with product to design custom engineering solutions for customer deploymentsEvaluate installed systems to maximize efficiency and reliabilityApprove engineering changes to existing facilitiesProvide support to Data Center Operations on failure analysis and engineering support for system maintenance and operation of critical infrastructureProvide engineering and project management support for strategic customersProvide independent quality controls to facilities group to ensure proper operation of equipment, safety, and maintenance practicesEstablish construction standards for electrical, mechanical, and support infrastructureSupport commissioning activities by reviewing test scripts and witnessing test performancePromote and demonstrate the behaviors consistent with CoreSites culture and 8 Guiding PrinciplesSpecial projects as assignedTravel up to 40% annually to support testing and construction activities RequirementsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong working knowledge of data center design and operationMust poses problem solving skillsMust have strong verbal and writing skillsMust have basic working knowledge of AutoCAD or other computer aided design softwareMust be able to demonstrate in-depth technical knowledge of electrical/mechanical support systems for data centersAbility to use test equipment such as power quality meters, thermal imaging cameras, multi-meters, and other test equipment to evaluate and troubleshoot equipment operation. Education/Experience5+ years of relevant experience in Mission Critical operation and designBachelors degree in engineering or relevant Mission Critical operational experience is requiredPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
