At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision - transforming patients' lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease - and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry - each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference. The co-op position is in the Materials Science & Engineering group, which is part of Drug Product Development department in New Brunswick, NJ. The group is a diversified mix of scientists (engineers, chemists, physicists, and pharmaceutical scientists). We characterize and analyze solid forms (ie polymorphs, salts, amorphous solid dispersions) for the purpose of selecting a final form to deliver to patients, and to evaluate form and form changes in API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) and drug product manufacturing processes. The position has the primary responsibility of performing API crystallizations, pharmaceutical solid-state physical characterization, and thermodynamic studies to evaluate the relative stability of solid forms. In addition, the position will provide the opportunity to obtain basic skills in the operation of solid state characterization instrumentation (PXRD, DSC, TGA and vibrational spectroscopy, SEM, and optical microscopy) and offer the opportunity to interface with other groups within our company including the drug product formulators and process chemists. Students will be working with specific scientists on projects of interest that could be either lab or computer related. Recent co-op projects include evaluating in-silico screening in the search for new co-crystal solid forms, examination of protein lyophilization processing conditions which may exacerbate glass vial cracking, and studies to appraise usefulness of new instrumental techniques to detect crystallization and phase separation in amorphous dispersion formulations. Please note: relocation will not be provided. This role may be virtual or in-person dependent upon COVID restrictions. REQUIREMENTS: - Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited university program seeking an undergraduate degree, masters or PhD. in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, chemical physics, physics, pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy. - Hands-on laboratory research experience id preferred. - Must have good oral/written communication skills and be able to work in a team environment - Must include GPA on resume for consideration (program requires GPA of 3.0 or greater) - All candidates must be authorized to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future. BMSEC, BMSCOOP Around the world, we are passionate about making an impact on the lives of patients with serious diseases. Empowered to apply our individual talents and diverse perspectives in an inclusive culture, our shared values of passion, innovation, urgency, accountability, inclusion and integrity bring out the highest potential of each of our colleagues.
