THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated Junior Systems/Electronics Engineer to provide support to the US Coast Guard (USCG) at the USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC . The electronics engineer will provide engineering support services in one or more of the following areas: Power generation and distribution, electric propulsion and power electronics, centralized machinery monitoring and control, lighting systems, interior communication systems, alarm systems, navigation systems, or computer systems integration. The candidate's responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) performing or supporting the following actions: Provide technical assessments of shipbuilder design deliverables. Support development of Electronics and Electrical systems specifications. Support Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM) and capture action items. Participate in the creation of technical papers, studies, and reports on emerging issues. Support the government in developing technical responses to contractor's questions. Interface with the USCG Ship Design Team (SDT) and other USCG Technical Authorities. Analyze technical reports from third party design validation sources and make recommendations to the Government. Provide technical support in the following areas: Power generation and distribution, electric propulsion and power electronics, centralized machinery monitoring and control, lighting systems, interior communication systems, alarm systems, and navigation systems. Provide support which includes updating the System Specification, SOW, CDRLs, and Indicative Design to adjudicate technical issues. Reviewing and evaluating the effect of new and/or modified electronics on overall system performance. Citizenship Requirements Due to the requirements of the federal contract that this position supports, US citizenship is required. Citizenship will be confirmed via I-9/E-Verify at the start of employment. Security Clearance Requirements Must already possess or be able to qualify for and obtain upon hire a SECRET security clearance, and maintain it for the duration of employment. An existing SECRET security clearance is preferred. Required Education, Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities Bachelor's degree (BS/BE) in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, or another comparable discipline, from an ABET accredited university or college. In lieu of an acceptable Bachelor's degree, one of the following may be considered instead: An additional six (6) years of relevant work experience. An Associate's Degree plus an additional four (4) years of relevant work experience. Zero to three (0-3) years of relevant engineering experience is required. Prior relevant engineering experience gained with USCG, US Navy, or other DoD areas is highly preferred. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam preferred. Proficient with common productivity software, including Microsoft Office. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize work. Typical Physical Activity Essential functions typically include (but are not limited to): typing, hearing, sitting, standing, talking, and vision.
