Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a full-time news aide to join its News Operations team. The news aide will work five days a week, including some evening and weekend hours.

Duties include working with the Metro news desk; answering phone calls; monitoring voice mails; checking for faxes, emails, or other communications; and forwarding them to the appropriate desk, reporter and/or editor. Communications and messages can include news tips, corrections, obituary submissions and other items that may be of interest to The Post. The aide will also be responsible for items that go to publication, such as local home sales, crime reports, holiday closings and daily newsletters. This position will offer a range of additional work opportunities within the newsroom and other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate should be punctual and reliable; someone who has strong communication skills and a passion for journalism; and a self-starter who takes direction well and is a strong teammate. Any educational or professional experience in newsrooms is a plus.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.
